She just woke up

While I was paralyzed in indecision about how to respond, I heard Alice's voice again.

"Mmhmm?" Her voice went up this time, a question. There was uncertainty, like she was unsure of her surroundings.

That's it! I thought. I got too eager and woke her up. So the worst case scenario seemed to be averted, but now there's this to deal with. Soon enough, Alice would be conscious enough to comprehend the situation, and then I'd need to tread very carefully. There wasn't enough time to put on her clothes and pretend like nothing happened, plus I was practically naked as well. Okay scratch that. Some other plan then. But what? I need something to get me out of this mess.
