Chapter 4
by Lyingbastard
What would Lana think?
She's a pragmatist...
The Outlander considered that one. "If it was just a dalliance for pleasure, I doubt she'd care too much. Sith believe in taking pleasure where they want, that passion gives one strength. But they also don't like other people taking what they've claimed for themselves. I've known Sith Lords that tried to pay absurd amounts to dispose of an unfaithful lover, if they didn't do it themselves. Most of the time, I took the money and got the mark off-world with a new identity. The end result was that they were out of their lives, which is what they really wanted anyway," he said. He didn't want Shae to think he broke his contracts.
"While I don't doubt she'd see the political implications of creating such a pact, I honestly can't say that she'd be willing to share. For that matter, would a Mandalorian wife be willing to share?" he asked.
Shae shifted her weight, straightening up a bit. "A Mand'alor does what she has to for her people," she said, chin raised. "And we're not really possessive. Remember, most of us are nomadic mercenaries, one partner staying home to tend the hearth and raise the kids, while the other goes out to earn a living, then switching off. It's understood that separation causes loneliness, and infidelity isn't automatically cause for shuk'la riduurok," she said, using the Mando'a term for divorce. It meant 'crushed marriage pact', and was as good a term for it as he'd heard. "Most couples can deal, so long as any kids that get produced are raised by the couple. We're not real big on bloodlines, remember? Aliit ori'shya tal'din." Family is more than blood.
"So does that mean you're volunteering?" The Outlander asked.
"What can I say? I pulled rank and took rights of first refusal," she said, following it with a wink.
"I'm not against the idea, but I don't want to have to wind up shooting either you or Lana over a misunderstanding or jealous rage," The Outlander said.
"Trying to, you mean," Shae said, then shrugged. "I know this is a bit sudden. Take some time and think it over. Talk it over with her. Like you said, she's a pragmatist. The advantages are clear for all of us. And I don't mind sharing - seems like there's plenty of you to go around," she grinned. "It's like having to buy a new speeder, you know? You're probably going to want a test drive before actually buying." She punctuated that last sentence by unclasping her pistol belt.
What does the Outlander do next?
