Serendipitous Timeskip

Chapter 3 by DrunkPigeon

The supernatural note that happened to pass you by was a couple weeks ago now. You'd almost put it out of your mind were the signs leading up to the big day any contrarian indication it was bunk. The signs, however, pointed to... maybe?

You couldn't be sure. Always chickening out at the last second to what grooms you did find, trailing behind them like the tin-cans sloppily strapped to the back of their hand-me-down Toyota's. Haunted by what jarring experiences you managed to procure in the moment with the lucky stranger - Peter, was his name? Pieter? He had a strange friendliness at your insistence, but you didn't know him beforehand; you couldn't quite chock it up to the note. Seriously, though... how many grooms do you normally meet on a good day? Slim pickings, it was. But then again, you recall; it was never about quantity for you...

You had known Andre since high school. Basically your run-of-the-mill man crush til you caught wind he had eyes for someone else. On a subconscious level, knowing back then that his wedding was only a few weeks away must've been your reasoning in writing 'Grooms' in the first place. It was never meant to be between the two of you, you know that. It didn't help that his paramour was just as intriguing, kind and charismatic.

Had Andre known your feelings of his soon-to-be spouse, he might've not asked you to be his best-man. Really; how often is it in story books that the love triangle always comes from inside the house?

How were you handling it? Staring yourself down in that big dressing room mirror, you don't see the confidence you've been fishing for - for the past half an hour.

Knock. Knock.

You recognize the percussive pattern on the door. It can only be the one person you're dreading to see.
