Sentinel attack!

The X-men sprang one by one out the back, where a tractor beam lowered them safely to the ground. Jean was last, bitterly dragging her feet. She lowered down onto New York City to see the familiar site of a Sentinel attack: Buildings on fire, people running, giant robots grabbing up unsuspecting mutants.

The other X-men went to work heroically battling the Sentinels while Jean began using her telepathy to organize the fleeing civilians. An utter waste of her talents. She watched the battle bitterly, especially Emma turning to diamond and battle the robots.

Then she saw something. A person was pinned under rubble and a Sentinel was reaching for her! Jean sprang into action. She ran over, putting herself in the way.

"Jean what are you doing?" Cyclops yelled. "Get out of there!"

Jean ignored him. She went to raise her telepathic **** field. To her surprise, nothing happened. Blinking in surprise she tried again. Nothing. Her powers! What was happening?! The Sentinel reached down at her while she stood helpless...
