Chapter 4 by thesuperman90 thesuperman90

Who picked it up?

Sean McNamara

A lucky break. That's all it was. A lucky flip of a football is the only reason he was even allowed to be here tonight.

See, Sean was the third string defensive end for the school's football team, and the new kid in town. Standing at six foot three, he was big and strong, but not the biggest nor the strongest. There was no first string spot open for him. There was, however, a spot for him to play in a game as a third stringer if he was just patient.

Yet an impossible number of things happened in the game last Friday night: The team was down by exactly five points, the first and second string ends were both mildly injured getting the visiting squad backed up to the one-yard line, the play started on the last second of the last quarter, and the first two ends tackled the visiting quarterback before he could get there, and, they knocked the football loose. All Sean had to do was fall on the football that landed at his feet... TOUCHDOWN!

The next two hours were a blur of claps on the back, kisses on the cheeks by cheerleaders, and an invitation by none other than Jessica Edwards herself to come to her birthday party. It was the most exciting thing to have happened in his eighteen years of life.

Sean got to the party a bit late since he had to walk there from his house almost a mile away. The 'perks' of not having a car. His feet were tired and sore from the walk, but that all disappeared when he got to the house party. The amount of people there, along with the **** meant that he might just have a chance at meeting a girl and walk out with a date for Homecoming. As a senior, that's all he wanted to have, was one memory of dancing, and enjoying the company of the opposite sex.

Sean had been walking around the party, given a beer and a shot by Brad Myers himself, told a few lame jokes, and got 'groaned' out of the living room (jovially) by the terrible 'dad-joke' he had just told. Looking up to the stars from where he exited the house and saw a shooting star... which immediately bounced off of his forehead and onto the grass at his feet.

Squatting down, he looped his index finger around the glinting gold ring and pulled it closer to his eye. It was ornate, with loops of gold and an emerald in the center. He thought to himself, "This is one of the coolest rings I've ever seen!" Inspecting it closely, he checked the inner band and didn't see a name marked there at all. It wasn't inherently a 'guy's' nor a 'girl's' style and seemed to look good on him as he put it on his right ring finger.

As he checked out the piece of jewelry from every angle and watched how the moonlight, and the lights from the DJ booth had caught each facet of the ring he caught some rushed movement out of the corner of his eye. His breath caught in his throat, and his heart skipped a beat. It was Jessica, and she was headed right for him a most worried and determined look on her face.

Jessica, for her part, had done rather well getting over to the new guy. John? Don? Neither of those sounded right, but she didn't care. At that moment all she needed to do was get that ring back before anything happened. "Stupid Kevin," she muttered to herself. Walking in a straight line, her magnificent breasts bouncing a bit at her heavy rushed foot-falls, the young cheerleader was breathing hard while Sean's hand closed, the ring already on his finger.

Sean was so startled by her appearance that he was at a complete loss for words. So he just said, "Hi-er-ummmm-hey-ahhhh," and undoubtedly lost all of his cool points as he tried to, and then promptly failed at leaning on the tree that was about three feet farther away than he thought. Once he righted himself, he looked sheepishly at the cute cheerleader.

The buxom blonde, still a bit breathless from her hurry to get to him, held out her hand and said simply, "Sorry for the surprise, but that ring you have is mine." Sean's heart dropped. Holding it on his finger and feeling it on his skin, it felt like it belonged there for some reason, but a quick look at Jessica Edwards famous green eyes told him that it was definitely her's. There is no way anyone's eyes but hers were the inspiration for buying this ring.

He nodded and took the ring off his finger, but while the loop of the magical object was still touching his skin he said, "This is the, by far, coolest looking ring ever! I wish it was mine forever," and with that he dropped the ring into her hand. Of course he had meant to say that he wished he had one just like it, but those words went unspoken as he flustered and bumbled through his wish.

Jessica closed her eyes and squeezed the ring in her hand, the intense and relieving excitement of getting the ring back mixing with the flash of arousal from the wish. She could feel it in her palm and it was safe. Looking up to the boy who gave it back brought a smile to her face. He was cute with bright blue eyes and scruffy looking dark brown hair, in this light he almost seemed cuter than Brad.

The ring still in her hand she giggled and realized that she remembered his name, "Hey! Aren't you the guy who saved the day last week at the game? Master... right?" No, that's not what she meant to say, his name was Master. Her hand flew to her mouth and the other one opened to reveal that the ring wasn't in her hand anymore.

Where did the ring go?
