Chapter 4
by Hollin
Walking down the valley.
Scientific Curiosity
As you begin your hike out of the valley, your scientific curiosity begins to assert itself. You take out your scanner as you walk and begin to survey your surroundings. To your delight, the lifeforms you are able to get readings are appear to be remarkably similar to Earth standard. The coloring on the plants is much more vibrant than the greens you are used to. But from what you can surmise that should the need arise that you would be able to find varieties which you could consume for nutrition. And to a bit of your relief, there doesn't appear to be much animal life that you could detect. You had been a little worried about how you would fend off an attack as you had never been a very good shot with the laser...but it didn't appear that was going to be much of a possibility from your readings.
So absorbed in your exploration you fail to notice the time until you almost walk into a tree. You also shiver a little as the air has become noticeably cooler as the sun has set. You rub your hands a bit, and think it's probably time to find a spot to make camp. As you search for spot where you could make a fire, you frown. In the distance you hear what sounds a bit like a humming sound. Taking out your scanner, you try to take a reading...but you are only able to catch a vague result that may or may not be life in the distance. You look up at the sky, and it's now so dark that the stars are shining fairly brightly. Trying to sneak up on something unknown in pitch darkness does not sound like your idea of fun...
Do you investigate?
