Scene Four

SAM: -Well… the thing is… I was going to serve spaghetti with meatballs for dinner… I was cooking the tomato sauce and the pan fell off my hands, spilling sauce all over my clothes… I just took them off to wash them…

LOUISE: -I see… And you got tomato everywhere, even on your underwear?

SAM: -Yes… It was like a tomato-tsunami… I was all soaked…

LOUISE: -And yet your hair looks very clean… So does the floor…

SAM: -I just cleaned the floor…

LOUISE: -You cleaned the floor before getting dressed?

SAM (looking defeated): -Yes?

LOUISE (looking amused): -You must believe that I was born yesterday, don’t you? You think I don’t know what’s going on?

SAM: -You do?

DARRIN: -You do?

LARRY: -You do?

LOUISE: -Of course I do. Darrin, you’re a young man. You arrived home, you saw your beautiful wife and nature made its call. You took Sam's clothes off and were going to make love to her, but we arrived earlier than expected and interrupted you. There’s nothing to be embarrassed about. If anything, we’re sorry we disrupted you. Remember when we were like that, Larry?

LARRY: -Mmmm… No, I don’t think I do.

LOUISE: -I’ll tell you what: why don’t we leave these two lovebirds alone? We can go to that French restaurant you like. We will have dinner all together next week, okay?

LARRY: -Good idea.

The Tates grab their coats from the living room and walk towards the front door.

DARRIN: -I’m very sorry... I don’t know what to say…

LOUISE: -Don’t be ridiculous. We told you: you have nothing to be embarrassed about. I miss the years when we were like that too…

LARRY: -Really, Stephens, don’t mention it. See you tomorrow at work.

SAM (still covering her breasts and vulva): -Thanks for understanding! I owe you one, Louise!

LARRY (taking a last look at Samantha): -You’re a lucky man, Stephens.

The Tates leave. Samantha uncovers herself and sits on the sofa. Darrin walks in circles, still anxious.

SAM: -Relax, darling. It is all over. Now we only have to wait for mom to come back. Just sit here with me…
