Ruby sees Cardin at lunch

“You okay, Rubes?” Yang said, pulling Ruby from her thoughts.

“Yep!” she said quickly. “I’m great!”

“You haven’t taken a single bite. How can you expect to keep up with your studies if you aren’t eating?” Weiss said from the opposite side of the table. Ruby looked down, a grimace forming on her face as she saw her lunch.

It wasn’t that it was bad food. Not at all.

A shiver ran down her spine and her silver eyes shot up. She met blue ones and watched as they widened in surprise before Cardin looked away again.

It was him. He was the problem. She took a deep breath even as warmth surged through her body at the memory of the way he’d looked at her the previous evening. Like he’d wanted to eat her. So, so different from the adoration Jaune had shown.

Weiss growled, and Ruby responded by taking a bite from her sandwich. She could feel his eyes again. Was he thinking the same thing she was? Was he remembering the way she’d looked?

Was he imagining what she’d look like right now, if her body was stripped from the uniform?

Her breathing quickened.

She looked up again. This time, he didn’t look away. She winked, before flushing. Why had she-he looked away! His own cheeks as red as apples.

She swallowed.

She’d need to do something about this. Before it got out of hand.
