Chapter 13
by CrocodileHAZARD
Do you continue messing with Robin, or do you do as Cyborg asks.
Respectfully agree to Cyborg's request
"Sure, why not? I've had fun," you reply to the tallest among the Titans.
"So who exactly are you anyway?" Cyborg asks.
"I'm no villain, but I wouldn't call myself a hero. Just a traveling, superpowered individual. I go from place to place, make a little money from various odds and ends, take in the sights and sounds, then move on to the next location sooner or later. Don't really have a favorite haunt or anything."
The fact that you're much more talkative to Cyborg is not lost on the group. You swear that Robin's teeth must be made out of steel, since the sound of him grinding his jaws in anger is like crunching metal from a car accident.
"So what brings you to our city? You told Jinx you were looking for us," Cyborg resumes questioning.
"Just happened to be stopping by. I don't visit many places with an established hero, let alone a group of them. Thought about waiting out by your Tower, but that wouldn't have been the best message."
"And telling a group of villains you might be on their side was?" Robin asks, irritation clear on his tongue.
"I did just say I don't identify with either label. I avoid stepping on toes as much as possible on either side. Never know where the next paycheck comes from."
"So why should we trust you?" Cyborg asks, tensing a little at your casual admittance to how willing you are working for villains.
"Honestly? You might not want to. But not everyone with abnormal abilities or powers can get the kind of gig you guys do. Most have trouble even getting basic employment. You might not have heard of me, but I've got a small reputation in a few places. Enough that there's one thing about me you can trust."
"And what would that be?" Robin asks.
"I'm generally loyal to the one signing my paycheck. The only time there's been a problem is when the other party decides to either stiff me or attempts to breach our contract."
"What's that mean?" Beast Boy asks.
"I'm no assassin. You want someone dead, I'm not your guy. I'm not naive enough to say that I never will, or haven't already. But any bodies I've left behind were either unintentional or a last resort. I don't accept money for spilling blood.
"Along similar lines, I don't deal with ****, slavery, the **** stuff most common and decent people avoid. The minute anything along those lines starts happening, I'll be the first to tear you down. Doesn't matter to me which side of the law you're more popular with."
You answer doesn't earn you any brownie points with Robin, but the others at least look thoughtful.
"So what, you want us to hire you?" Robin inquired.
Do you want the Titans to hire you?
