Jeff's texting, at least, shows his reliance on spell/grammar check for his news reports. But, this kind of thing makes you feel so uncomfortable. It's not really cheating, but you are sure Chris would be mad if he found out, so you're pretty sure that it's somehow wrong. Jeff has never tried anything with you, so you just halfheartedly respond to these texts, hoping he'll get bored and move on to someone else.
