An insightful priest

You glance over yourself: yes, it's obvious to any stranger what your position is, that much is clear. Your garments and lightweight armor are all shades of brown and blue, and around your neck hangs a pendant with a silver sigil on it. The sigil has a wavy line on the top and two straight lines coming out at equal angles from its center, pointing downward. When seen in a mosaic or mural, the coloration of the lines make it obvious what it is: a watery ocean horizon, with a road leading into it in front. You are clearly, to everyone's eyes, a priest of Festundi, the god of adventure, travel, and freedom.

Being a servant of Festundi is a bit unusual, and not much like being a priest of one of the more conventional or stuffy gods. There are few religious strictures other than an encouragement to seek freedom, joy, and the pleasure of travel and adventure. Festundi is a largely benevolent and free-spirited god, which perhaps explains why his worship was so appealing to you - you grew up in a rather conservative town, and were supposed to be an acolyte of Ionus. You shudder just at the memory. Ionus is a dreadfully strict god of duty, service, and sacrifice. You enjoyed ministering to the people of your town, but chafed against the strictures of your sacred order. Being caught dallying with one of your fellow acolytes (when both of you had taken vows of chastity) pretty much put paid to those ambitions - but you managed to work your way to a city where you met a group of Festundians who took you under their wing for a few months. You've separated from them recently, wanting to strike out on your own, but they taught you everything you know about the faith - and your faith, which has become unshakeable, offers your remarkable powers. It also gives you a clear-eyed vision into the ways people behave and why they do what they do, which has gotten you out of more than one scrape, "soft" power though it is.

Still, faith alone isn't sufficient to survive in a hard world, especially as an adventurer...
