HR. Pt1

“What’s your name?” As we approach HR office

“Frank, besides, they’ll trust me more than you and get you fired, don’t you know who my dad is.”

Nope, never heard of this kid, or his dad before.

“Frank, I don’t know and don’t care who your dad is, you’re not at home, you’re working here. Now wait for the other 2 to arrive before coming in.”

I enter the office and quickly close the door behind me “Amanda! Jimmy! How are you guys? You busy right now?” Rushing is to give them both a handshake.

“John Oh thank god, you’re ok, we were really worried when we heard you were in the hospital.” Amanda says quickly grabbing my hand.

“yep, we’re free right now, you got an issue you want to talk about?” Jimmy grabbing my other hand for a quick shake.

“New intern bumped into Winston made him spill his coffee on him and didn’t apologize, thinks he’s hot stuff and treats those he thinks under him terribly. Think he’s going to cause a hostile work environment.”

“Oh yikes, that’s a bit of an issue isn’t it?” Amanda looking worried

“Also, before we let him in, pretend I’m John the new intern, I want to see how he really acts and see if he sucks up to authorities. I also asked Winston to get the other Interns to see how he treats them.”

“Alright John, honestly you could have just fired him, you have good judgement and the authority.”

“yeah it I want to give him a chance to defend himself, also I don’t think I’m old enough or experienced enough, only almost 3 years remember?”

“Wait 3 years? Wow time flies, you honestly acted like you were here for around 10, come on let’s let them in now.” Jimmy chuckles.

I open the door and Frank with the 2 other interns enter looking slightly uncomfortable.

“Please take a seat” Amanda pointed to the abundance of chairs.

“Hi nice to meet you two I’m John I’m actually an intern here as well. What are your names?”

“Adam” the other boy said

“Charlotte” the girl on the right responded both of them looking far more relieved that they didn’t do anything wrong.

“Adam, Charlotte, and Frank. Got it. Now Frank and I had a little issue this morning, Amanda and Jimmy here have already been debriefed on the situation. Now Frank would you like to tell them your side of the story?”

Frank spins a bullshit tale about how we ran into him, called him slurs and tripped him. Ok you know what we’ll be polite and just listen to him.

Amanda raises an eyebrow. “Now were there any other witnesses at the event?”

“Sadly, no / no” we both say in unison. “However, we could get Winston to tell his part of the story.” I suggest

“Good Idea, we’ll call him here. Frank, you’ll stay with me, John, Charlotte, Adam why don’t you go with Amanda so we can discuss the best course of action?” The two interns nod quietly nervous thinking they did something wrong.

We walk into the second office that was made for Amanda. “So John, you never told us why you wanted the interns here.”

“Did we do something wrong?” Charlotte asks meekly.

“No, you guys are fine, sorry let me properly introduce myself, I’m John I’m the heir to the company. I have a lot of authority here and didn’t want Frank over there to suck up to me. You can tell a lot about a person by how they treat those equal and lower to them.”

Seeing the shocked expressions on their faces I decide to continue the explanation.

“Well, you see here at Harris industries, we don’t tolerate disrespect on any level it can create a hostile work environment, While we do have some heated arguments sometimes everyone still has respect for each other. I called you two here because one, I want to show you what happens when there is this disrespect, and two I wanted to get an account of how your first impressions of Frank were.”

“Um sorry for asking but how old are you?” Adam asks respectfully

“Oh I’m turning 19 in a month.”

seeing both of them gasp months open Amanda explains “he’s very gifted, already graduated university and has worked here for a few years already. He is one of the most trusted members here. Now, what were your impressions of Frank when you met him, you don’t need to be shy.”

Charlotte raises a hand slightly above her hand. “Can I start?”
