Chapter 13 by Ganti
You open your eyes to a welcome sight...
Red hair and long, pointy ears
You blink away sleep-sand to see that Lyrissa is awake, coherent, and has been watching over you. Your dominant hand feels lightly constricted, and you glance at it while pushing yourself into a more upright position. Its' been bandaged, and the only person who could have done that is Lyrissa. Between that and the fact she stuck around to watch over you, you're honestly rather flattered. Your back protests at the awkward position you slept in, but not nearly as much as you think it should have.
"Cledwyn!" Her voice sounds brighter today, for some reason. And a touch less confident. "You're up! You... actually had me worried there for a bit."
She helps you to your feet and leans down a bit to pull your arm over her shoulders. "Come on, lets get you somewhere more comfortable then the floor, hmm?" She half leads, half carries you to a battered but intact couch and settles you onto it. Honestly, you could have managed yourself but she's rather nervous and if this makes her feel better, your dignity is a relatively small price to pay.
"... Thanks. For saving my life. I know I'd have respawned, but that didn't make bleeding out any less scary," she admits. "I deeply appreciate it."
"It was the right thing to do," you attempt to wave it off, but she interupts.
"It wasn't! I'd have respawned! You were so close to dying yourself and you wouldn't have! Not without a lair!" Her voice is thick. "You could have died permanently and you used your last heal on me." You think you see tears forming in her eyes. "No matter how scary respawning feels, loosing you would have been worse."
"I wasn't in danger! The boss was dead and I had no DoTs or status effects!" You rush to reassure her.
"... I know. Intellectually, I know that. But... This is still the first time I've seen a friend this get that close to ****..." Her voice trails off.
Oh. That... Would do it. Especially combined with her own near-**** experience. You shift a bit and pull her into a hug, one of her ears pressed up against your chest to let her listen to your heartbeat. "Its' all right. I'm still here. We both made it through and that's what matters in the end."
You run your hand through her hair as you vaguely remember your (Mother? Older Sister? You're unsure) doing for you after a nightmare (The dream, not the demon). It seems to work, as her breathing slows and some of her trembling stops. Though, admittedly, you can see the tip of her exposed ear turning red. After a few minutes, when she has her breathing under control, she sits up straight again. Though, admittedly, she's still blushing.
"Feeling better now?" You ask with a grin, and her blush intensifies, but she nods.
"I am. Did you manage to claim the tower?"
It's your turn to nod. "Aye, I did. This is officially my home now. I suppose I ought to see what the details are now that I have the time."
She laughs softly. "It might be wise."
