WD Day 9 - New guard

"I will prefer a new guard. The situation with Cait and Vi seems messy," you say.

"Wise," the Warden replies. "I'll make the change. In the meantime, what happened in the guard room is, of course, on security video. I'll erase it, but I wonder if you'd mind if I showed it to my wife first?"

"I don't mind," you say. You aren't shy.

"I think she'll enjoy it. For now, why don't you go back to the infirmary?"

You go downstairs and join Ana, who is watching something on a tablet. It's soccer... and the players look familiar.

"What is this?" you ask.

That's how you learn about FUTA, the reality TV show that your soccer camp turned into after you went away. Ana is watching because her daughter was at camp!

It kind of hurts to watch... all those girls are free, they have other girls around who aren't, you know... prisoners. And they get to play soccer. You miss soccer.

A brunette in a guard's uniform enters the infirmary, looking cheerful.

"Williams," Ana says disinterestedly.

"Hi, Ana. And hi, Adella. I guess I'm on your block now," the guard says cheerfully. Apparently her name is Williams. She's a very ordinary, girl next door type. "Is that FUTA? Have they announced the matchups for Friday?"

"Not yet," Ana says, trying to ignore Williams as much as she can, but Williams grabs a chair and sits to look at the tablet.

"How's Fareeha doing?" she asks.

"Fine, thank you," Ana says irritably. She obviously doesn't like Williams. Or maybe she just wants to watch in peace.

"What is this? A pillow fight? A SEXY pillow fight?" Williams laughs. "Look at those cute little uniforms."

Ana scowls. "It is demeaning," she complains.

"I like it. Look how good Fareeha looks. Look at her ripped abs. Did you ever have abs like that, Ana?" Williams asks.

"Shut up, Williams."

"Why are you so pissy?" Williams asks. "Pissier than normal."

"Look at those girls. They work together. The women here stab each other," Ana snaps.

The doors open and Vi and Cait bring in Mei, who has a black eye. They say someone beat her up because of war crimes. Ana groans and puts ice on it. She's very grumpy today.

Williams walks you back to your cell.

"You're a soccer player, right? You should watch the game with me and Ana tomorrow. I have some friends that are on that show, but I don't know anything about soccer. You could tell us what's going on," she says.

"OK," you agree, not really caring that much.

"By way, new cellmate for you," Ashley says, taking you to a new cell. "Warden wanted it to be a clean break. I hope you guys get along."

You go inside, and she shuts the door. The other girl already has the bottom bunk. Your stuff is on the top one.

The girl on the lower bunk is slender and her pale hair is in a short pixie cut. She's pretty, but looks very stuck-up.

"Hi," you say. "I'm..."

"Adella. I know," she says, face unreadable. "You're all anyone talks about these days. I'm Victoria."
