Chapter 68 by fantaghiro fantaghiro

What's next?

Randall texts you later, but you ignore him.

It wasn't until you'd returned home (thankfully managing to dodge any intrusive questions as to where you'd been from your mom) and locked yourself away in your room for a good hour - taking your anger and frustration out on as many people online as you possible in Call of Duty - that you finally received a text from Randall asking where you were.

Randall: Yo dude, where'd you go? Soz about taking so long with George. You still wanna hang out?

Is that it? Is that all I'm gonna get from him? you thought as you stared at the message, having expected a little more than just 'soz'.

Part of you wanted to immediately text him back and tell him to go fuck himself, and that he can go hang out with 'George' instead - seeing how he obviously had way more time for him than you. You refrained however and simply tossed your phone back onto your bed, deciding to just ignore it instead. You'd had enough of Randall and his bullshit for one weekend, and you really didn't want to have to listen to anymore lame ass apologies or excuses. No, right now you just wanted to kill shit and forget that this whole Randall/Miss. Card mess even existed.

Not that that stopped Randall from trying to get hold of you of course, sending another two messages your way - one of which was a repeated apology, and the other just telling you to text him back when you could - before seemingly giving up. Although you were relieved by this, the fact that he didn't try a little harder and had only resorted to texts didn't exactly do him any favors in your eyes, having at least expected him to call.

Thankfully however, your afternoon wasn't spent entirely wallowing in your own rage, as a couple of hours of noob killing later you received a call from Allison instead, which was a much more welcome distraction. Though the two of you chatted about nothing in particular really, dancing around what you'd done the previous evening with a lot of nervous giggles, you were extremely glad she called - Allison being a reminder that there was someone else in your life who you were now equally as close with (in fact, possibly now even more so now, after having sex together). She also succeeded in calming you down somewhat, and as the conversation soon spilled into school stuff and the upcoming 'Back to School' dance, you felt way less concerned by Randall's actions and more excited about the thought of partnering up with your girlfriend on the dance floor. Though you did usually hate high school dances and all the crap that went along with them, usually opting to avoid them at all costs and instead just chill out and watch bad movies with Randall instead, now you had a real good reason to want to actually want to go. After almost year and a half of trying to move things to the next level with Allison, you finally had, the two of you had had sex and consummated your relationship, so perhaps now was the time to stop living in the past and accept the fact that she was really 'your best friend' now. She was the girl you wanted to be with, not Randall. Who needed him to hang out with and have a laugh with when you had her?

You'd of course told yourself this before a few times, but this time you really meant it. You and Allison were stronger than ever now, and she was trying to get you out socializing with other people and doing stuff that other couples did. So why continue chasing after Randall like some kind of lapdog, only to be dismissed and tossed aside over and over again? So what if he was your best friend of 13 years and was now in the body of an insanely hot woman? He was acting like a total dick and you really didn't need that. What you needed was something normal...and something normal definitely wasn't Randall!

So, holding true to this promise, the following day at school you put your former best friend out of your mind and instead threw all of your previously waste time and energy into your relationship with Allison. You also opened up a little more with Sean during weightlifting, letting slip the milestone you'd finally achieved this past Saturday.

"Wow. Way to go, bro!" came his enthused response, as you gave each other a high-five, "I'm totally jealous!". He looked it too, and in fact seemed way happier than Randall had been when you'd told him...more genuine somehow, which was weird.

"Thanks," you told him, trying not to dwell too much on this though.

"You're one lucky guy, you know that?"

You couldn't agree more - you were lucky - Allison was smart and funny and cool, and really, really hot, and it was this thought that stayed with you as you finally rolled into 4th period Government and were confronted once again by Miss. Card.

Though Randall kept up the strictly professional air he usually adopted in class, you couldn't help noticing him glancing your way a few times, almost as if he was subliminally trying to ask you about what had happened the day before. You did your best to ignore this however, keeping your head down and trying not to think of him as anything but the teacher you saw before you, feeling yourself start to get angry again if you didn't. This wasn't exactly an easy task and class seemed to go on forever, but once it did finally end, you grabbed up your books as quickly as possible, not wanting to give him the opportunity to stop you on the way out. He did try though, and spotting him jumping to his feet as you passed his desk, looking like he was about to say something to you, you kept your gaze fixed forward though and hurried out the door along with everybody else, still having no interest in hearing exactly he had to say.

This pattern basically continued for the next couple of days, with you ignoring any attempt Randall made to contact you - his texts soon turning into calls. At one point you did however almost relent, wondering if you were going a little too overboard so completely ignoring him. You were still pissed of course, but from the snippets of texts you read, he did seem like he was genuinely upset that you were shutting him out, which did make you think twice. This was before you spotted him down the hallway on Wednesday morning chatting away with Mr. Hanson outside the science building, smiling and laughing away like nothing at all had happened, which only furthered you're resolve - seeing the two of them like that hurting you inside all the more.

"So, what's going on with you and Randall?" Allison eventually asked you, sensing something was up, "You haven't mentioned him in a while?"

"Nothing's going on. I just decided that maybe mom was right about things, that's all," you told her, wanting to be as straight with her as you could. "He's...I mean she's a teacher now and I'm a student, there's no way we can still stay friend's like we were before. He's too busy with his own shit for me now anyway. And to be honest, I was getting kind of sick of running around after him all the time."

"Really? Wow. That's a real shame. I know I wasn't always Randall's greatest supporter, but you guys were such good friend's for like forever. Are you sure you can't make it work?"

"Nah. But I don't need him anyway," you said shaking your head and flashing her a smile. "After all, I've got you, and you're way cooler and sexier than Randall will ever be."

This caused Allison to let out an (almost uncomfortable) little giggle, "Heh heh. Thanks," before once again bringing the conversation back round to Randall, as if she was actively trying to push you into making up with him. "I just don't want you to give up on your friend that's all. You guys were so good together."

"Good together? You always told me he was holding me back."

"Yeah, but...well I didn't mean it like that exactly. Anyway, I've uh, I've got to go. I said I'd meet Shawna to help her with this thing she's doing."

"But I thought we were going to hang out?" you said as she grabbed her bag and sat up from the table, the two of you having barely even had time to touch your lunch.

Allison's reply to this however was merely, "I know. Sorry," looking a little guilty as she leaned over and gave you a quick peck on the lips. "I'll see you later on though."

And with that she quickly turned and skipped off towards the cafeteria entrance, before you'd even had a chance to ask about the dance this Friday (having not even arranged anything yet). Left alone then, you couldn't help but contemplate how odd that whole exchange had been. Since when did Allison care so much about Randall? Hadn't she been on your mom's side this whole time...and what 'thing' was she helping Shawna with? It was strange, even though you'd been giving your relationship 100% these last few days, Allison seemed way more distant and subdued than she had been before. But then again, with all this Randall business still gnawing away at the back of your mind, you could only assume you were becoming a little paranoid and things were still perfectly fine between you.
