Talk to the Dean

“Um, what can you tell me?” You ask.

“Miss, Janet, I'm not a mind reader. Just ask me what you're curious about, and skip the small talk. And remember, we don't appreciate loudmouths in this school.” He replies.

“What can you tell me about the school?” you ask.

The dean replies, “We are probably the pre-eminent school for training young ladies of... let's say unusual backgrounds... to fully accept their new reality and embrace their new purpose in life. Our methods are, if I may be immodest, guaranteed to succeed. ”

"I saw the mention of rules in the contract. What are the rules, here?" you inquire.

"That is covered in the student handbook you will find in your room.

“Actually, I think that's enough questions for one day, young lady. Time for your physical.” He wraps his hand around your upper arm and firmly guides you through a door. That wasn't there before, you think.

As he escorts you down a hallway, you see him check his watch. “Hm,” he says. “Well, Janet, after the nurse is done with you, it'll be just about time for you to start your work study assignment in the Library. Go to your room and check out your school schedule, which will fill you in on everything. Then come to me and get a permission slip, so you can get into the Library.”

The two of you turn a corner, and the Dean escorts you into the nurse's office. He heads off to “take care of that damned silly fool Karen”.

The nurse's office is painted in a faded robin's egg blue. There's a gurney in the center of the room, and windows overlook the school grounds.

“I’m Nurse Hendricks, missy,” the nurse says authoritatively. “Let's get these clothes off so we can see what's what.” Before you know it, she's manhandled you out of your sundress and sandals.

“Now, get on the scale, missy,” she tells you.
