I give them a list of jobs that need doing and they assign tasks to the other non-citizens and I can tell them to start assigning tasks to you too. Those of you who do a lot of work around the camp always manage to get the votes you need in the weekly meetings and if you do exceptional work you'll find yourself voted into citizenship."

Jerry sits forward in his chair resting his elbows on his desk before continuing. "Of course these tasks are the ones that we citizens don't want to do. Dealing with the sewerage, scrubbing the floors, carrying heavy equipment to where it is needed, stuff like that. My assessment of you so far is that you don't have what it takes to do the hard work on these kinds of tasks."

"Please I can d-" Your plea for a chance is cut off as Jerry raises a hand from his desk to tell you he wasn't done talking.

"Of course you are going to want a shot at it, this is your way in to stay here. So before I waste Arlene & Ralph's time I'm going to want some proof you will do a hard task you might find repulsive. We are coming to the end of the day now and I don't really have anything that needs doing around the camp though." You see Jerry hum to himself as he thinks about what test he can set you.
