Chapter 368

How did dinner go?
It was difficult
Dinner started on a tough note when Deisi and Wendy got into a fight over who would sit next to Matt... a fight that ended when Mrs. Fellers announced he would sit next to her.
Then Mr. Fellers demanded that Wendy go and change her clothes into something "decent". She looked better than decent to Matt but he decided not to intervene.
She came back wearing a dress that was cut ridiculously low in front... and Mr. Fellers said nothing... which surprised Matt until Deisi whispered "that's one of mom's dresses. He doesn't dare complain about it."
Matt wasn't going to complain, either. While Wendy didn't have the chest endowment that Mrs. Fellers had, she still looked hot.
Everyone got quiet when Maria brought in the meal... and Matt committed what was clearly considered a faux pas when he asked Maria if she needed any help with the carrying.
"Guests do not offer to help the staff," Mr. Fellers pontificated. "It's an insult to the hosts by implying they aren't wealthy enough to hire enough staff to handle the job."
Matt was on the verge of asking whether Mr. Fellers had to work on being an asshole or whether it was a natural talent, but he caught Wendy's look of horror and managed to bite his tongue.
"Thank you, sir," Maria said. "I'm sure I can handle everything."
After the food was served, Maria vanished into the kitchen and Mrs. Fellers spent the next couple of minutes drilling her daughters on their activities of the day and their accomplishments.
Deisi allowed as how she expected to make the high school equestrian team and Wendy said she was enjoying trig but missed Matt since he'd been suspended.
"Now Matt," Mrs. Fellers said, continuing the pattern of drilling everyone at the table (he wondered if she'd get to Mr. Fellers next), "tell me about your dad."
"What can I say. He's a dominating jerk who--"
"That's no way to talk about your father," Mr. Fellers interrupted. "A father deserves respect."
"Sorry," Matt said. "I thought I was asked a question."
"Be respectful," Mrs. Fellers said, "and darling, shut up."
Matt tried to think how his dad would respond if his mother told him to shut up. It wasn't a pretty picture and he cringed expecting Mr. Fellers to lash out... either verbally or physically.
Instead, he nodded. "Sorry, dear."
"Continue, Matt," Mrs. Fellers said.
"Uh, yes. He is, with all respect, an asshole. He **** us to move to the hill because he thought it would look good for his work, but then he abandoned us when mom lost her job.... respectfully," he added when Mr. Fellers looked like he was going to jump out of his seat.
"And where does he work?"
Matt explained the work situation and Mrs. Fellers nodded. "Fine. Let's finish dinner. I will take care of this little matter afterward while you and my husband have a cigar. Then I'll explain exactly how you are going to prove your gratitude."
Uh-oh. How is he going to have to prove gratitude?

The New Kid
A new town, a new school, but is it the same old you?
Matt's parents have moved to a new high-class suburb. He'll attend a new school but everyone else is rich... he's broke. Will he be an outcast, or can he find a way to make himself popular... and get laid?
