Chapter 108

Do you track down Lynn or look for Amina
Try and locate Amina
You’ve had enough of Lynn to last several lifetimes by now, so instantly rule out looking for her. Amina should know what’s wrong with the pendant. The only question is, where can you find her? If you were a former genie who suddenly isn’t anymore, where would you go?
You imagine what a girl out of time and with nothing to her name could do in this modern world. Suddenly you feel a regret of not looking after her after taking on her role. Lynn kept distracting you, but you could have tried a bit harder to find out what happened to Amina. Where was she? How was she doing? Was she even still alive?
Lynn teased that maybe Amina was just a figment of the pendant’s magic. Was she just a conjuration of a previous owner? Then taking her place would have been for nothing and be yet another cruel joke by Lynn.
You shake your mind off all the things Lynn. All this second guessing and doubt is not getting you any closer to finding answers. You have to find Amina. Where would you go if you lost everything?
You head home. The only other person who has had any significant contact with the former genie besides you and Lynn would be your mom. Maybe she would know what happened to her.
You arrive back at your place, looking around the yard and driveway to see if the petite redhead is waiting for you there. Mom’s car is in the driveway but the front porch and backyard are empty. You head inside.
“Moooom, I’m hooome!” you call out.
“How was school, dear?” your mom asks from the kitchen.
“Uh… fine…” you answer, “Say, do you remember Amina? She was staying here…”
“Of course I remember Mina!” you mom replies. “Such a sweetie! She left you a message.”
“She did?!” you say, rushing into the kitchen to find out more.
“Yes, she said she was going home to take care of some things, left you her address, and wants to meet up with you again,” your mom says, nodding her head at a note on the kitchen table.
You snatch up the note and read it:
Riley,
I’m going home to take care of some things.
When you have a chance, I’d like to discuss some things you should know. You know what about... But you don’t know what you need to know about what you know. I know what you need to.... Come see me!
Amina
P.S. Here’s the address - 5 Red Lane, Olympia University, 3rd Floor, Room 6.
You put the note down and look over to your mom, who is busying herself with chopping vegetables, facing away from you “... Mom, did you read the message?” you accuse.
“Oh come on, I’m your mother!” she responds, affronted. “Of course I read it!”
You turn around and grab your keys as you grumble back to her, “I’m going out.”
“You got protection?’
“Mooom!”
“I’m just looking out for you, dear,” your mother replies, “Be home before 10 and say hi to Amina for me!”
You roll your eyes and head to the address Amina gave you. There are more questions rolling around in your head now. Amina has a home? It’s at the university that Stacy’s sister goes to. Does that mean that Amina is a student there? But she was a genie, how did she enroll in university?
The answers lay at the address, so you put the questions on hold until you get there.
Some time later, you stand in front of room 6 on the 3rd floor of the building Amina sent you to. You stare at the door number nervously, not sure what you will find inside. You take a deep breath and knock.
You wait anxiously, listening for sounds behind the door. There are footsteps and then the sliding of locks. The door opens and a girl in tied up purple hair and dark eyeshadow answer it. She is wearing a **** metal tank and ripped up black shorts. You can hear the heavy drumming and riffs of heavy metal playing in the background.
“Yeah?” she asks. You look the girl up and down. It clearly isn’t Amina. Maybe it’s her roommate.
“Um… I’m looking for Amina?” you say.
“Never heard of her,” she replies with a lack of interest.
“She told me this is her room,” you explain.
“It’s not,” the girl responds plainly.
“But then… where can I find her?” you ask.
“Guess you won’t,” she says, unconcerned.
Not knowing what to do next, you stare at her awkwardly until she slowly closes the door in front of you.
‘Wait!” you shout out, “What do I do now?”
There is no answer from the occupant of room 6. Your only lead to finding Amina appears to be shot, but there must be something you can do to find her. You could look up the school registry and find out if she is actually a student here… if you had a last name… Maybe someone would know her or at least have seen her today. You could ask around. But, with a school this big, that could take all night. Maybe it would be better to spread the word, put up signs and have anyone who has seen her contact you. Maybe Amina will see the sign and contact you directly. You wish she had a phone on her that you could call, but your stupid pendant isn’t working!
“Agh!” you call out in frustration.
“Riley?” a girl calls out.
You turn to see...
Who do you see?
