Wait until the day of

The day of the event arrived quickly. You had trouble paying attention in school for the week and had spent most of your free time not doing homework but researching hair styling and make up techniques. Finally settling in on a couple of looks you had seen on a few older celebrities on their red carpet walks. Hoping that one would work for your new body.

Every day this week you woke up and grabbed the bottle out of your desk drawer wondering if you should take it, ultimately deciding to save the pills for the party. Today you couldn't bring yourself to look at it pills and left them in your drawer getting more anxious than you've ever been for any test you've done or any girl you've tried to talk to and failed at.

You get out of bed seeing that it's mid morning. You go downstairs and make yourself some eggs and toast for you and your dad. Since your mom had passed you had to help around the house more and discovered you were pretty decent at cooking and enjoyed doing it. Especially when your dad praised it.

You hear some footsteps coming down the stairs as you're finishing up, standard practice for during the weekend for both of you. You start to plate the eggs as he enters the kitchen. He pauses for a second and mumbles a good morning not really looking at you. He sits down with his tablet and reads the news like he usually does while slowly getting through the eggs. He's dressed in his typical golf attire knowing that he's already come back and cleaned up after his daily gym session. He has tried to get you to join him over the years but you've never stayed consistent at it.

Once finished you sit there on your phone waiting for your dad to finish as well. He puts down his tablet and finally looks at you before saying "I know it's a bit awkward but thank you for tonight, David, it could really help me. I'm going to give you the space to get ready today, I've laid out the dress your mother bought for the party in the room as well as...the additional pieces she has purchased to wear for the night." adding in a cough during the long pause as well. "If there's anything else you need, your mother's items are still in the closest, just use what you need." You could tell he was a bit down thinking about your mom, it surprised you to know that he still had all of her belongings, but you know he would never throw them out. He continued after a brief pause of looking out the large bay windows that illuminated the kitchen, "I'll be at the golf course with some of the higher ups, it's a tradition before the annual party."

After some more small talk about your day and his, he goes to get his clubs from the garage and confirms the timing of the event and when you'd be leaving before heading the door. Before he leaves he adds on more detail you didn't know, "It is an overnight event, work is covering a room at the hotel we're going to. So make sure to pack something to sleep in and for the next day. I'll make sure we're out of there as quick as possible in the morning, but just for appearances we'll be staying the night."

This gave you more to think about, you had enough pills for a 24 hour period but you didn't think you'd need them all. To play it safe you decide to take all the pills at noon so that they'll wear off in plenty of time after you've both returned the next day.
