Point of No Return

The call button is hit and Lucy soon comes in to prepare for the procedure. You are prepped and laid out on the two parallel tables, legs up and spread in the stirrups, as Lucy and Peg work around you. They hook you up to various machines and lay out an array of tools and devices half of which you could only guess the function of. While the set up was rudimentary the technology involved was beyond cutting edge. Lucy and your aunt worked calmly and efficiently, confident in their ability to do this thing.

This was it. The point of no return. In another minute or two you would be dead to the world. But there is no doubt in your heart, only hope and love for your little sister.

Looking over to El you could see she was determined, but understandably scared. Reaching out you offer her your hand, she takes it and clings to it tight.

“It’s going to be okay Elsie.” You whisper. “I’m right here.”

Your words and your touch soothe her like nothing else could. The fear drains from her beautiful face and the tension in her body eases. With her calmed it also settles your nerves.

Lucy goes to separate your hands but your aunt stops her. “Let them be.” Your pinky fingers remain hooked together as the anesthetic is given and the world fades to dark.
