“What are your plans for the day?” she asked.

“I’ve got to show my face at the office for a few hours. It’ll be boring as hell, but dad does clock my hours.”

Nepotism as well, she thought. She'd be doing the universe a favor by bringing this guy down a notch or two.

“Oh, well, I can get a cab back to my-“

“You can stay here as long as you want. I found my sister’s swimwear and put it near the door to the back deck, if you want to use the pool. The basement has a game system setup if you’re into that.”

"Oh Troy, you are so sweet," she said, taking his hand as he stood over the bed. She expected him to lean in for a kiss.

But he didn't. He gave her hand a squeeze and made his way out of the room.

"I left my phone number on the kitchen table. Check in with me at some point; it'll give me a chance to look busy."
