Her sister

Lauren straightened out her clothes before donning her best smile as she opened the door, revealing her younger sister, Vanessa.

“Vanessa! I’m so glad that you – “

“Yeah, yeah, cut the bologna.” Vanessa snapped, rolling her eyes. “You and I both know that we hate each other’s guts, so why did you invite me over?”

“I’m glad you asked actually.” Lauren said, motioning for Vanessa to come inside. “I actually have something very important to talk to you about.”

Vanessa rolled her eyes as she followed Lauren into the kitchen. Sitting down at the table, Vanessa eyed to glasses of water suspiciously as Lauren cleared her throat.

“Vanessa,” Lauren began, “I know that ever since we were kids, we never got along to save our lives. The arguments, the childish prank wars; it was all a mess! That’s why I suggest that, starting this very moment, we should bury the hatchet! That we start over and live life, not as enemies, but as sisters!”

“You know something, Lauren? I agree.” Vanessa said with a grin.

Lauren opened her eyes in shock as she looked at Vanessa. “Y-you do?”

“Yeah.” Vanessa said with a nod. “I’m growing tired of this stupid feud we have going on between us. It’s time we started over with a clean slate!”

Wow. Now I almost feel bad about using her as a guinea pig. Lauren though to herself, Almost. Lauren then lifted her glass of water as she said aloud, “To the start of a new sisterhood!”

Lauren smiled as she saw Vanessa take a sip of her water before downing her glass. After they were done, both women smiled towards one another.

“So, real talk here, Lauren.” Vanessa said, arching an eyebrow in suspicion. “What did you put in the water? A sleeping pill? A diuretic? What?”

“Neither. It was my experimental truth serum.” Lauren said. Her eyes then widened in horror as she slapped a hand over her mouth. Why had she –

A terrible thought occurred to Lauren right there. She had had her eyes closed the entire time she said her phony bologna speech, so what was stopping Vanessa from switching the glasses after assuming that this was all an elaborate prank? Which meant that she was the one who downed the truth serum! Since she had no idea how long it would last, she only prayed that Vanessa wouldn’t have anymore questions.

Unfortunately, the universe was ignoring Lauren today as the woman saw her sister smirk evilly at her.

“Really now?” Vanessa asked, to which Lauren involuntarily nodded in response. “In that case…”
