“Well I –“ April began, before she was interrupted by a knock at the door. The door opened and a ten year old boy stuck his head in.

“Ms. April!” the boy called out. “Ms. Marigold told me to get you! There’s a potential adopter here!”

“I’ll be right there, Zachary.” April responded as Zach left the room. Turning to Lauren, April said, “Did you here that, Rosie? You just might get that new loving family sooner than we thought!”

April grabbed Lauren and lifted her up, placing the little woman on her hip as she carried her out of the room. Not once did she see the look of pure terror on Lauren’s face.

No, no, no, no, no! Lauren thought. This isn’t happening. This is NOT happening!

April brought Lauren into the living room and sat her down on the couch. She watched as she was soon joined by a gaggle of children, ranging from ages two to fifteen. After the room was filled, Ms. Marigold came into the room with another woman.
