Chapter 23
by
Funtimes
What's next?
You will accept your payment tomorrow, you sleep in your bed
As you stand up from the table, both the mother and daughter get really tense. Sensing they are waiting for you to say something, you say: “The two of you should pack tonight. I’ll see you at the carriage tomorrow morning at sunrise.” You can almost see the tension as they thought that you would **** them to accompany you tonight.
After dinner, each party makes their way to their own rooms for the night. However, despite the pleasant company, you cannot sleep comfortable in a bed you're not used to. Surrounded by your four women who are sleeping, you stare aimlessly at the ceiling. Then, a sound of something being slipped under the doorcatches your attention. Not one to let things go unexamined, you carefully crawl out of bed and walk towards the door. At the door, you find a logbook. As you flip through the pages, you quickly realize that the book belongs to Sir Trindon. No wonder his people love him so much. From the records, it's clear that he charges low tax to his subjects, and in spite of that, manage to maintain his domain and pay his due tax to the kingdom. Sir Trindon manages to accomplish this by not putting unnecessary restriction on trade in his lands. While other nobility put restrictions or allow such trades but charges exorbitant tax on them, Sir Trindon promote them. As a result, he gets a lot of merchants from all over the country and abroad coming in to trade.
Flipping through the pages again, it is then you find a passage that changes your life forever. An entry was written, its date exactly a month before the **** of your brother. You look down at the page in horror and regret. It is hard to believe it, but it is written by Sir Trindon’s.
"I asked the stupid king and his son to allow me to divorce my wife because she gave me only daughters and not even one son! I should have known that he's going to protect his lousy sister. He would sooner have one of his most trusted nobles lose their lands instead of inconveniencing one of his relatives. I’ll have to do something about that."
You quick flip forward to another entry that has the exact day of your brother's ****. There, you find a short sentence with just four words.
"The Deed is done."
This whole time you assumed your mother had your brother and father assassinated. You even tried to distance yourself from her, as much as you can, without her noticing. You're in deep trouble. Now you're in the domain of the man who was responsible for your father and brother's ****. What should you do?
If you simply do nothing, Sir Trindon probably wouldn't move against you as he got what wanted. In a way, you also got yours, since you're the king instead of your brother.
The second option is to have your guards arrest him. Of course, doing so can trigger a rebellion as Sir Trindon is popular among the nobles.
Or perhaps there is another way, another solution.
What is your decision on the matter?
