Chapter 28 by AlexandraS90 AlexandraS90

Who do you ride with?

Donald.

"Looks like I got what I was after all along!" Donald teases, as the elf helps you up into the prince's saddle. You press yourself up against him, and he holds you in place. You're glad of his strength, trying to ride a horse on your own was a recipe for a broken back, despite the awkwardness of being arse to cock with the prince once more. You feel it too.

"If anything you should feel flattered, your Majesty." Donald says cheekily, as he spurs his mount on down the path.

The day passes in amiable conversation, between you and Donald, at least. The miles soon melt away, though somewhat slower than the crown prince expected, due to having to ensure your safety.

As you ride, you look out over a sweeping vista, several smooth undulations of snow-swept hills, leading to mountains higher and more rugged than any you'd seen in your own kingdom.

"Beautiful country out here." You whistle, taking it all in. The human in you could appreciate a tableau of natural splendour, just as much as the demon could one of suffering and carnal pleasure.

"Thanks." Donald replies. "D'ya know much about what we Beathans believe? The land, people, all that?"

"I can't say that I do." You admit.

"It's no bother, Edward." Donald assures you. "Basically, we believe four Spirits, o' the Earth, Sky, Lake and Mountain, formed the people of Beatha just as they did their natural domains, put some of what's in them in us. Meant to be why we're so hardy and enduring."

"Fascinating." You say sincerely, watching the setting sun sink towards a westward peak. "I had no idea our kingdoms' beliefs were so different."

"Prolly a load of old hogcock, you ask me." Donald admits. "Though nodding along to it usually gets the shrine girls to lift up their robes."

You're a little surprised to hear a royal speak so critically of his own kingdom's beliefs.

"W-what?" You stammer.

"It's a load of bollocks, man." Donald continues. "Take Daena there. She could take apart half the warriors in Beatha without drawing her sword. What spirit breathed life into her, the God of Pointy Ears? No, we're hardy because living up here is hard, and if we weren't you southern pansies would'a come up and enslaved us all centuries ago. It's that simple."

"You're not like most men I know." You smile.

"That, I'll take as a compliment, brother." Donald chuckles. "It's getting dark, we should probably stop soon."

What's next?
