What Happens Next?
The Dark Floors Hospital Arc, Part 2
A flood of unfamiliar Thoughts, Feelings, Dates, Times, and Places invaded Aaron's mind as he stood frozen.
"Damn It Johnathan! [Who The Hell Is Johnathan?] This Is Not The Time! This Isn't Silent Hill! [Silent Hill? I've Never Been To Silent Hill. Oh, Wait That Was Johnathan... Silent Hill? Johnathan? What Does This Mean? These Memories Aren't Mine!]," Aaron growled trying to pull his arm down but Aaron was totally unable to control his body as he was nearly lifted off his feet and into the air.
Aaron struggled but whatever **** it was that was manipulating him it was a hell of alot stronger than he was. Aaron felt a strange sensation like a fog being lifted from his mind or was it his mind because a sickening and morbid indifference settled into his skull and his whole demeanor changed. Dropping to his feet with a brilliant flourish and then snapping his fingers bizarre sounds began to form in the air around him eventually taking the form of Music but with no discernible source.
With an unfamiliar look behind his eyes, Aaron tapped his foot on the floor impatiently and up popped a standing mike out of nowhere which he plucked out of the air before going into a spin. Coming to a stop Aaron passionately French kissed the mike before spreading his arms and leaning back on his heels much farther than he should have been able to without falling flat on his back and straightened his tie then looking over to the piece of rebar still twisted around his arm... He snorted and pulled on it with his finger. The rebar stretched like a rubber band before crumbling to dust and falling away.
"ALRIGHT ALL YOU PARTY PEOPLE! ARE. YOU. READY. TO ROCK?," Aaron screamed into the mike and the hallway shook.
Aaron leaned forward his arm outstretched with the mike in his hand as if polling an invisible audience for their opinion, "I CAN'T HEAR YOU. I SAID. ARE YOU. READY. TO ROCK HOBB'S END!"
Aaron seemed almost possessed as he rocked the mike back and forth while tapping his foot, A blue flame danced To the rhythm on either of his shoulders. The sounds that were at once every where and nowhere rose in volume and intensity becoming clearer and clearer as they continued to pick up speed...
"In the beginning... back in 1955. Man didn't know about a Rock 'N' Roll show... and all that jive. The White Man had The Smoltz. The Black Man had The Blues. No one knew what they were gonna do but Tchaikovsky had the news.," The Ghostly singer began to wail with **** and fervor as the unseen band joined in.
The voice continued, "He Said - Let There Be Sound!"
"There Was Sound.," Aaron echoed.
"Let There Be Light!"
"There Was Light.," Aaron echoed and the floor beneath him lit up in a continuously changing sequence of squares and he danced in time to the rapidly changing pattern.
"Let There Be Drums!"
"There Was Drums.," Aaron boomed pointing at the ground where several undead drummers rose up playing their drums.
"Let There Be Guitar!"
"There Was Guitar.," Aaron yelled into the mike as he pointed to the walls on either side of the hall in front of him and phantasmal apparitions stepped from them and each was holding a magnificent and pristine Gibson Electric Guitar which they played with supernatural skill, flame and electricity flying from there finger tips as they did.
"Let There Be Rock!," The Ghostly voice screamed, jarring the entire floor.
Aaron danced uncontrollably like a Manic-Depressive Speedballin' on Cocaine, Heroin, and Speed as the equally Manic sound of the cymbals and drums echoed off the walls and the unseen band played almost as fast as Aaron was dancing.
A violent and extremely cold gust of wind blew unexpectedly down the hall and a few feet from Aaron the air erupted in an inferno from which stepped a Tall Black Man in a suit almost as dark as his skin with a black tail coat, dark yellow lensed glasses, nooses around his neck and wrists, a top hat with Duck ornament on it's brim, and his face was painted like a skull. He was holding a Guitar that looked as though it were made from bone and it's neck was a scythe. From behind the tall Man stepped a smaller Asian Woman dressed as a Nurse with a pair of bone hilted Katanas strapped to her back and an eyepatch that had a grinning skull embossed on it. If one looked closely it almost looked like the skull was laughing.
Oye Look Everyone Its Baron Samedi and He Brought Along His Cute Little Asian **** Assistant.
The two stepped away from one another revealing the rest of the undead band drinking Coffee as Ghostly and Ethereal beauties danced in the air around them while their instruments seemingly played themselves.
"And It Came To Pass That Rock 'N' Roll Was Born!," The Tall Man in the suit yelled in his deep rich European accent as three sets of bones fell from the ceiling on either side of the hall tumbling through the air and falling into place to become six Spooky Skeletons sitting cross-legged as a huge Cello appeared between their legs from a tempest of flame which they immediately began to play.
"All Across The Land Every Rockin' Band Was Blowing Up A Storm.," Aaron screamed at the top of his lungs and everything fell silent and Aaron opened his eyes just in time to see the Tall Man swing his Scythe/Guitar right at his chest. Aaron narrowly avoided being bisected however it did make a long horizontal cut across his jacket and shirt not to mention cutting his tie in half.
Apparently Aaron had snapped out of whatever was happening to him and as he turned to run the floor opened up and he dropped several floors into the dark. Aaron managed to land on his feet though it was painful but he had no time to linger on the pain or to ascertain it's extent so he looked around. it was almost too dark even for his incredible vision to allow him to see but he could see well enough to move about without tripping over anything. Aaron surveyed his surroundings and he saw papers, twisted chairs, and bits of ruined equipment everywhere. Looking at the walls he noticed that they seemed to be giving off an Eerie red light and that they appeared to be pulsing or as strange as it sounded breathing.
Aaron walked down the hall trying not to make a sound. He didn't want to alert any of the horrors that might be lurking in any of the rooms or around the corner. As he made his way silently down the long hall he noticed a row of old style Cathode-Ray Tube (CRT) black-and-white televisions and as Aaron quietly walked by each one they snapped on and cycled through several channels before landing on the same one... Displaying The Message "Reality Is A Prison" to the sound of static and background noise with the occasional and seemingly random word, phrase, or blood curdling scream rising above The Sinister Din.
Aaron came to a huge open area with a row of chairs and couches on either side of the room. Portions of the floor had fallen away and the floor itself had been largely replaced with metal grating that revealed The Hellish Landscape beneath. Aaron didn't notice them at first because they were so still but the room was filled with the deformed nursing staff of The Hospital. They were all huddled in a group, frozen in place in bent and strange positions, each clutching a weapon, such as a pipe, a scalpel, a syringe or knife. They're dark shapes and the darkness of the room made it difficult for Aaron to see where one Nurse began and the others ended.
"I never thought I'd have this problem. I could really use a torch.," Aaron thought then he felt a strange sensation in the palm of hand and looking down he saw a flashlight in his right hand that he was sure hadn't been there before. Aaron slowly raised the cool darkly colored flashlight and hesitantly switched it on.
Aaron shined the light toward them and immediately they began to twitch and stomp in suit, forming into rows like an invading army. They begin to shuffle toward him, bending backwards and sideways, making sickly bone cracking sounds as they moved. Their movements were rigid and almost mechanical, with short, sharp intervals in between each movement. Aaron realized that they were being attracted by the light so he turned it off causing them to freeze in place yet again with only the occasional twitch giving them away.
Aaron had quickly memorized their positions before he switched the light off. Creeping toward them, Aaron tried to sneak through the group of creatures, but he accidentally brushed up against one of The "Nurses." The "Nurse" in question was armed with a scalpel and she lashed out, narrowly missing Aaron and cutting the throat of a nearby Nurse. The Nurse continually turned in circles, slashing blindly and violently but striking the other "Nurses" around him with murderous precision, causing darkly-tinted blood to spray from the gaping openings in their dead flesh. In the ensuing havoc, Aaron quickly switched on the flashlight and as every Nurse in the room turned toward him he tossed it to the side and watched as they robotically stumbled toward the light rolling across the floor. Using this opportunity as a chance to escape, Aaron hurried across the room.
As Aaron progressed, The open area quickly narrowed into a long twisting corridor that gave Aaron the impression that he was walking downhill but as far as he could tell the floor was reasonably level. After what felt like hours of walking, Aaron came to a wall or what he thought was a wall but upon groping almost blind at the obstacle in front of him he realized that it was a chain curtain. Each chain was wet and slick and ended in a huge meat hook. Holding up his hand, Aaron rubbed his fingers together then smelled his hand getting a strong whiff of copper which Aaron immediately recognized as blood having experienced blood at a young age it was not something you ever forgot... The smell, The slickness, The Warmth.
Aaron put his disgust aside and slipped through the chains, Aaron had to stay ahead of The "Nurses" and he was sure a few were probably stumbling after him by now so he pressed on and after several more minutes of walking he came to a massive iron door which took him a good 20 minutes to open not only because of it's sheer size and weight but because of the fact that it had been long rusted shut.
Making his way inside what appeared as best as he could tell to be a large boiler room Aaron looked around for anything he could find to shed any light on his surroundings... A Light Switch, A Flashlight, A Torch, A Box of Matches... He really didn't care at this point.
Aaron was feeling along the wall for a switch when suddenly he found himself blinded in a burning cascade of white. Aaron stumbled forward shielding his eyes and trying find the source of the blinding light.
"HELLO! IS ANYBODY THERE?," Aaron yelled.
"I CAN'T SEE! THE LIGHT IS TOO BRIGHT!"
"What Are You Doing Here BOY!?," Came a long rough, grating whisper from somewhere behind Aaron.
Turning quickly on his feet then jumping back several feet, Aaron scanned the darkness to find the source of the cadaverous-like utterance and stepping out of the darkness Aaron saw a short man with porcupine-like spines in the place of his hair, dark circles around his vicious red sunken eyes and the number fourteen carved into his forehead. The shrunken and emaciated figure was wearing a simple surgical mask and a Doctor's lab coat with a stethoscope around his neck, a dead flower in the coat pocket and a name tag that read Elkhurst.
"Who are you and what is this place?," Aaron demanded.
"You mean you don't know? And I thought you were smart.," Aaron listened as The Emaciated "Doctor" gurgled at him and he felt himself getting angry, a rare occurrence for Aaron since he seldom got angry.
"Why Is This Happening?," Aaron yelled, His anger beginning to creep into his voice as he spoke.
"How should I know? I only work here.," Aaron was convinced he could feel the strange Doctor smiling at him from behind his surgical mask.
"Do You Have Any Idea Who I Am?," Aaron roared angrily at The Eerily calm Doctor.
"I know who you might be.," The raspy voice of The Doctor replied without hesitation.
"And WHAT IS THAT SUPPOSED TO MEAN?," Aaron roared indignantly, The World around Aaron was crumbling under the strain of trying to contain him.
The Doctor remained silent.
"What do I care? This is all just a Dream anyway.," Aaron shrugged his shoulders and waved his hand dismissively.
"You Think This Is A Dream?," The Doctor repeated incredulously.
"What Else Can It Be? I Mean Look At This Fucking Place!," Aaron yelled growing more and more agitated.
The "Doctor" looked around for a few seconds then said, "Looks fine to me besides what do you know? You're not even supposed to be here. You haven't even stood before The Rue d'Auseil yet..."
"The WHAT?," Aaron questioned impatiently.
"The GATES BOY! THE GATES!," The Doctor's voice boomed shaking the room violently.
"You shouldn't have been able to enter here... Unless...?"
"Unless? UNLESS WHAT?," Aaron demanded **** for answers, His mind trying to get a grip on what was happening... Was he indeed dreaming as he imagined he was or was this some sort of delusion brought on by stress or was it because of his Tumor?
The Doctor gestured over his shoulder with his thumb to a bloody and broken clock on the wall and said, "Looks like our time is just about up but don't worry we'll see each other again. You're close... So very close but for now just so you don't forget..." The Doctor pointed over Aaron's shoulder and Aaron turned just in time to see a "Nurse" silently shambling toward him with a bone saw in her hand slashing at the air in front of her. Aaron had no time to dodge so he threw up his arm and the saw cut deep into the flesh of his arm as The "Nurse" gave him a solid kick to the chest sending him flying past the Doctor who waved, A smile obvious in his sunken undead eyes.
"Come Back and See Us Again Soon Young Kin'...," That was all Aaron heard. The next thing he knew he was gasping for breath inside The Scanning Apparatus and flailing like a mad man trying to get out.
"Quick. Something's WRONG! GET AARON OUT OF THERE NOW!," Aaron's Mother screamed half mad from worry as her Son violently pounded against the inside of The Scanner.
