Chapter 3 by whizzper whizzper

The Reception? Or the wedding night?

The Reception.

After a quick set up change the gathered sat at two long tables on the deck. The air was happy, and the seagulls actually left them alone, as though even nature approved of the day.

Courtney and Bridgett sat on either side of their husband, all involved looking content and happy.

Across from them sat Kathryn, Bryan, Peter and Sandy, looking equally as happy.

At the other table sat the rest of the crowd.

Charlie Jones stood up and used his knife to call everyone to attention.

He smiled as everyone looked to him, a little nervous. As a quarterback he was used to being the center of attention, just under different circumstances. "You know, I'm supposed to have a prepared speech and all that for this. But I don't. I'm supposed to be untrusting of my sisters husband, to keep her from being hurt...but I'm not. And that's because, let's face it, Jeremy has known my sister longer than I have. And I know, beyond a shadow of a doubt that he will treat her right. Because he loves her with all his heart. Now, obviously he married two gals today. That just goes to show how big his heart is. I know that his first love was my sister...but he couldn't bear to hurt Bridgett. He loves her as well, and this is the result. Hell, I was thinking about marrying the guy myself, what with all the help my sister demanded of me to make this work. I'd like to thank Sandy for introducing them to her lawyer friend. I'd like to thank Hank, Veevee, Jim and Sally in showing, basically all of us, that love doesn't always happen in a one on one situation. I'd like to thank our parents for understanding that their kids are just plum weird. But...most of all I'd like to thank Jeremy and Bridgett for making my sister happy. She'd spent so much of her life making others happy, that...I was afraid, seriously afraid that everyone would say thank you...and then move on. But...you two made sure that she realized, and that the rest of us realized, that you reap what you sow. She gave her love to everyone here, in some way over the years. And, " Charlie had to pause a second to get his voice under control. "And I am ecstatic that you showed the love right back without hesitation. Some nervousness in the fact that it happened this way, but...I thank you all. I thank my sister for being the greatest sister the world has known. I thank Bridgett for being her best friend since time began. I thank Jeremy for always being there for her no matter what...even if it did take the three of you waaay too long to get together...I love the three of you and I wish you all the best."

"Here here." Hank Menard exclaimed, "Couldn't have said it better my boy. I do wish the three of you the best in everything. Though from what I've seen, you won't need wishes."

Charlie sat down again, and then Gary Menard stood up. He had served as Peter and Bryan's best man. The Quad wedding had had three Maids of Honor, and two best men. Bryan's oldest friend, Scott, had to catch a plane to Japan right after the Quad wedding and couldn't' stick for the dinner, so Gary was doing the toast for them.

"Peter, Sandy, Kathryn and Bryan. You all met on a cruise with my parents. You four fell in love on that cruise, and I am very happy for the lot of you. I really am. Peter I've known you the longest. You are my oldest and dearest friend. And I'm, just as Charlie here is about his sister that you found people to make you happy for the rest of you life. Sandy, I wish you the happiness that someone with your heart deserves. Bryan, Kathryn...You've made Peter happy in ways that I can't...though I've made him happy in ways you can't either...but that's neither here or there. Kathryn, you are quite possibly the hottest teacher I've ever seen. Bryan you are quite possibly one of the most giving people I've ever met. You all found each other, and I'm envious. I really am. Oh, and Kate? Your night blindness is not your fault...there, got that out of the way. I think I was the only one that never had to say that."

The group drank and Gary sat down next to his wife, Mollie. They had invited Bernie and Grace but they hadn't been able to make it. They said they'd take the seven out to dinner after the honeymoon.

Amber stood off to the side, watching her twin crewers bring out the food. Kathryn looked over at Amber as she watched, and noticed the look in her friends eyes as she did so. Kathryn smiled at Amber as she realized that Amber had finally found someone to love, truly love as well. And just like most of the gathered at the tables it wasn't exactly 'in the norm.'

More dinner conversation? Or set sail?

More fun
