Chapter 15 by MidbossMan MidbossMan

How will you achieve surveillance of the entire area?

Instruct Tschau to watch the auction's weapons from the rafters

Tschau had to remain armed and ready, waiting for the right target to present itself, but that was no reason she couldn't multi-task. The ninja's overhead position was perfect for checking on the various weapons being shown and making sure nobody got any funny ideas. She would only need to do it until the obnoxious Serpentine Sportsman finished whatever ruse he was playing at. You opened up comms, then quietly whispered Tschau her orders.

"Hmph... Don't tell me to do something I'm already doing..."

In spite of her characteristically standoffish words, you were pleased to find that the two of you were on the same page. She had already started looking for any suspicious behavior among any of the show's attendees. You couldn't help but turn your eyes up towards the rafters, trying to catch a glimpse at your agent hard at work...

Wait a minute...

That was the glow of a phone screen up there! You hissed at Tschau to put away her phone while she carried out the assignment.

"Don't accuse me of using my phone while I'm doing what you asked me to, Dumb Ciao!"

You growled, but tried to keep your voice quiet as you scolded the ninja, who was clearly using her phone. If anyone else was paying enough attention, they'd see it too; then her cover would be blown!

"I was just-! There was something-! I really have to see-! Grrrr, fine! Fine, I'm putting it up!"

You interrupted her childish tantrum as many times as it took to make sure she really put the phone down. Now you could make sure she was really paying attention... Sheesh... She was 21, but she still acted like a teenager. You imagined no handlers had ever really given her a proper scolding before... child-like or not, she was still a deadly ninja.

By this point, the entertainment the Sportsman had called up was nearly over. A very pretty Egyptian bellydancer was on stage, but you'd missed almost the whole routine. The suited man was wearing a sour frown as he clapped, perhaps thinking he'd wanted something more exciting, but the rest of the crowd seemed happy. Not that you personally wanted them to be happy... they were all international terrorists, you recalled. Still, better they be clapping for a bellydancer than sneaking off to pick up some ray gun... If they'd started a fire-fight with security, it wasn't hard to imagine yourself getting caught in the crossfire.

"Hm hm hm... That girl needs a firm hand sometimes." Vaarvel chuckled approvingly.

What comes next?
