Speak to Carol privately and explain that you aren’t looking for a relationship

As the "games" went on, the women mostly gossiped, about both you and other things. Their overbearing mother-in-laws, women they didn't like, etc. You needed some time away, so you got Carol's attention.

"Carol? I have to... powder my nose." you said.

"Oh, of course dear, it's down the hall, to the left." Lois interjected from the other table.

"Thank you." you started to stand.

"I'll go with you, to make sure you don't get lost." Carol stood up with you.

You had an inkling that she still didn't trust you completely. Maybe she thought you'd try to raid Lois' closet as well. As you approached the bathroom, you figured you could take the opportunity to explain a few things to Carol.

"Uh, Carol?" you asked. "I just want to clear the air a bit. I'm not really looking for a boyfriend right now."

"Not looking for a boyfriend?" Carol asked. "You're not... you know... are you?"

"No! Of course not!" you exclaimed, before realizing what you'd just admitted to. "I'm just... not interested in that right now."

"Oh, nonsense! Trust me, you'll thank me when you have a devoted husband and you can spend your time taking care of him." Carol said. "You just have to find the right one."

"I'm not sure that's out there for me. But if you could get the other ladies to let up too, I'd appreciate that." you said as you entered the bathroom and locked the door, happy to get away for a few moments.

Your talk only solidified Carol's resolve. She returned to the other room and called a small meeting.

"Okay, Erica just told me she's not looking for a boyfriend. Why would that be?" Carol asked.

"Maybe she just got out of a messy relationship. I remember wanting to swear men off entirely in my younger days... course that was before I met my husband." one of the women remarked.

"So you've gotta keep doing what you're doing. Make sure she finds Mr. Right." Lois said.

The women dispersed by the time that you made it back from the bathroom, but Carol was determined more than ever to find you a man.
