Next Morning
A welcome encounter
Janette rubbed her eyes, groaning as she shuffled to her side and forced her eyelids to part. As her blurry vision began to take focus, her ears picked up on a soft sigh beside her. It followed a certain pattern, like the cutest little snore she could imagine. Sitting up in bed, she discovered her answer as a slant-eyed little rebel laid her face atop her crossed arms over the bed, her lower half remaining sat on her chair. She collapsed in her effort to watch over her, how adorable!
"Hehehehe!" She giggled, something she didn't do often enough before fixing her hair a bit. Bed hair was unfortunately a nuisance that has plagued her all her life, and it would take close to an hour before she felt satisfied grooming her hair to a beautiful style, kept clean and smelling nice. Reaching to her side to adjust herself and steady her grip and balance, her hand had meant to grasp the edge of the nearby shelf but incidentally bumped into a half filled glass of water.
Crash!
Janette gasped, cupping her mouth and remaining still in a vague effort to keep her protector sleeping, but it was in vain. Her eyes twitched and squeezed together, followed by a groan as she lifted her torso off the bed and sitting upright.
"Chikushô, I slept all crooked and awful. Nice to see you're awake."
"Nice to see you snoring on my bed, sleepyhead." Janette quipped right back at her with a subtle grin.
Her comment was rewarded with a blank stare and a few blinks before she muttered out, "Yarô."
Well, worth a shot playing cute.
Janette cleared her throat before turning her attention to the puddle of broken glass on the floor. "Shit, I'll get that."
Her words were ignored as Reta fell to her knees and promptly began picking up each individual shard, collecting them on her cupped hand.
"What are you doing, you'll cut yourself that way."
"Shizukani shitekudasai."
"What? I don't- just let me grab the broom I'll get it." She suggested, shifting upright and kicking her blanket away.
Reta gave her a look in return. "No, rest. Relax, I will clean this."
"No, my house, my mess. I'll cl-"
"Would you please shut u-ow!" She flinched, flexing her hand and dropping the shards she had collected. A soft drop of blood slithered down and landed softly on the wooden floor.
Janette frowned before walking out the room, returning with a towel and tending to a bothered werewolf. She flinched once the towel wrapped around her hand.
"Don't be such a baby, acting tough got you into this after all. You made your bed, so lie on it." Reta scoffed, rolling her eyes. "Why do you do that?"
"Do what?"
"That, you act all tough like you're trying to impress or make up for something. You can just drop the act you know, I remember the other night you were being sincere for once. It's me, no need to be a big girl around me."
Silence was her initial response, followed swiftly by a turn of her head and a shrug. "Probably was a mistake dropping my guard there."
"Was it?" Asked Janette before scooting close to face her. "Why do you need your guard up with me, with us? You play distant but I wake up finding you sleeping with me. I'm thinking... you have a soft spot inside."
"I liked you better when you were sleeping."
Janette smirked. "So you like me a little bit then?" She added, squinting as she held up her index finger and thumb to emphasize a minuscule object. Reta responded accordingly, on her feet before pushing past her and closing the door behind.
Janette sighed with a hint of content, a towel full of shards on her hand.
