Continue to approach anyway

The sight of the fire comforting her, she continued across the bridge. She scent of salt, timber, and tar assailed her nose as she entered the the building. The torch was just peeking out from the stairs leading down. Solid and slow footsteps accompanying it. Tension filled her, resisting all her instincts of fight or flight, Jessica spoke. "Sir... excuse me?"

Then a large saw clattered over the stairwall, attached to a gray and red hand. The saw was large, the kind two grown men would heft with all their weight back and forth to sunder wood, nearly as long as she was. Worse, it was stained with some cloying substance, sticking to it. The thing pulled itself up, ignoring the remaining steps in a large step.

Blood drained from Jessica's face as she realized the truth. The strangely simian humanoid in front of her was some kind of beast. The saw its grim weapon to get it the blood it wanted. Its previously human status was reflected in the shambles of clothes still on his frame. But it now stood 7 feet tall with its hunch. Its eyes were locked on her, as it raised the torch higher as if to get a better look at her.

Adrenaline surged in Jessica. Only a few options were available to her. The moonlight glinted in her eyes as she her mind reeled. There was a break in the wall to the side exposed by the firelight. Behind her she faintly heard barking. Her feet twitched for movement.
