Chapter 4 by Colleem Colleem

What's next?

The Avengers, Fury and Reed Richards talk about the Ship that will enter the Orbit in a few Days

Reed Richards stood in his laboratory and looked at the guests present. Tony Stark, Thor, Cpt. America represented the Avengers while government representatives were present along with Nick Fury. They had met in his lab, since even the most modern telescopes in the world, not even Stark's technology, could provide such accurate images of the alien ship as the Fantastic Four.

"So, what do you want to tell us Mr. Richards?" Fury asked impatiently as he looked at the image of the massive ship. Even on the screens, the ship looked huge and threatening.

"I have watched the ship closely ever since it appeared. It has changed course three times. The first time it took a direct course to Earth, then it changed course and headed for Mars, only to fly directly to Earth. ...and I learned some interesting things."

"Darling. Don't get lost in detail." Susan smiled at her husband.

"You're right. Let's start with the obvious things. The ship is about five miles long. The ship will enter our orbit at present speed in 13 days. "What is important to note is that it is neither Kree nor Skrull.

"Really?" Tony laughed amused. "Did it really take you that long to realize this ship wasn't a Skrull or Kree ship?"

"No. I knew that after 4.32 seconds. But while we're at it. How long did it take you to figure out this ship had something to do with Earth?" Reed countered, folding his arms.

"Excuse me?" Fury asked, and Tony grinned.

"It's been almost an hour, I confess."

"21 minutes." Reed answered and grinned broadly. "As you can see in this picture, the part I would call the bridge is adorned by an eagle. An interesting analogy to the figureheads on old sailing ships."

"Sorry to disappoint you both, but this type of bird exists on many worlds within the Nine Worlds." Said Thor, looking at the ship. "Though I have never seen such a ship. By the beard of Odin."

"Mm. Interesting observation." Gave Reed something to think about and scratched his chin while looking at the picture.

"What's this all about? Richards! Continue!" Fury sighed as Reed ignored them completely.

"What? Oh, yeah. I'm sorry. I have the following information for you. This image shows the vortex the ship used to enter our solar system. This rift closed again immediately after the ship exited. That's why I have very little data on it. However, two days ago, another rupture opened."

Reed showed further pictures in which a new crack had formed in space. On the next pictures you could see 5 more ships of a similar construction coming out of the crack. On the next picture you could see how one of the ships was caught from the inside by a vortex that attracted everything in the surrounding area like a black hole. On the last picture you could clearly see how the phenomenon had also hit the other ships and wiped out the entire fleet.

"Are you saying that this fleet has destroyed itself?" Steven Rogers asked thoughtfully.

"I think it's more likely that there has been an accident. "I suspect that the engines are based on technology that works much like a black hole. "However, it is something I have never seen before."

"Meaning?"

"These are the readings I'm picking up from the crack. It's collapsing, but apparently the explosions near have stabilized it. It's collapsing much more slowly than the first crack. "My calculations indicate it will collapse completely within four months."

While everyone was quite confused on a screen full of numbers and graphics. Only Tony looked like he was studying them more closely.

"All right. We understand that we're all stupid. Could one of the two wise guys then condescend to enlighten us fools?" Steve asked

"These dates can't be right, Reed. I'd say that if you weren't you. So that means this crack leads to another dimension," Tony said, and Reed nodded.

"Apparently another dimension that's like the Negative Zone. However, there are probably no physical laws as we know them in this one. None of my scanners could penetrate the crack. It's like he's not there. Yet it has mass, shape and interacts with its surroundings. But in a way that I do not understand.

"Good. Now what does that mean for us? Is this ship dangerous?"
