Chapter 2 by FallenSaint FallenSaint

How does she try to find food and shelter?

Lore

This story takes place in the Hyssian Kingdom, which has been at war with the Demon King for over a thousand years. Hyssan has been the protectors of humanity, safeguarding the rest of the world from the demon territory. Because of that, the Baltan church gift Hyssan with a Hero, a strong adventurer that is chosen to lead the forces of humanity. Over time, the church's influence has begun to wane and the Hero has been chosen more and more by the kingdom instead.

Because of the never ending war, Hyssan is primarily a military state. All members of the royal family spend at least a few years serving in the military and some of the kings have been nearly as powerful as the Heroes, even without the church's gift of the title. Adventurers make up a lot of the population and the Guild is makes up the third part of the trinity of power.

The military strength of the country is divided by the Kingdom and its knights and soldiers, the church with its Saints and Templar, and the Guild with adventurers of various rank. The church has the smallest number of fighters, but Saints have powerful holy magic and their Templar can create strong barriers and use some healing spells.

Titles are a term that will show up fairly frequently in this world because everyone has a Title. These can be viewed similar to Jobs or Classes in RPG style games. Titles can change through various situations and training. Eliona became a Fighter at an early age and then a Sword Master as her skills were refined. Most of her combat skills are based on the use of swords and knives. Without a weapon, she is nearly defenseless. Once she became a Hero, she gained access to stronger skills and magic that were stripped from her when she lost the title.

Magic is something that takes a lot of study and aptitude to use. Eliona has no aptitude for elemental or healing magic, but could learn body strengthening with training. Magical aptitude can affect what Titles are available for people of the world. Eliona could never be a Mage with her lack of aptitude.

Money is divided into units called Bits. Bits are divided into four types: Copper, Silver, Gold, and Platinum. Copper and silver are common among the normal population with gold and platinum being more common among the nobles and wealthy merchants. there are 100 copper bits in a single silver bit, and 500 silver bits in a gold. It takes 1000 gold bits to make a platinum bit, so platinum bits are rare.

Labyrinths are places where dark magic have given birth to a living dungeon. At its lowest (Or at times, highest) floor, a crystal called a Core gives life to the labyrinth. These cores release a dark power called a miasma that creates similar cores that form the hearts of monsters. Both the Labyrinth and the monsters grow by devouring the flesh and magic of other living beings, and with enough power, both evolve to grow stronger. Monsters become more advanced and unique forms of their base form, such as simple slime eventually becoming a powerful Ooze. The Labyrinth grows in another way. It gains more floors and complexity. The items lost by dead adventurers are magically collected into treasure chests that are used to lure even more adventures in. At every fifth floor, a Sentinel guards the path to the next floor. The cores of monsters can be collected after the monster is defeated and sold for a profit depending on how large and full of magic it is. Sentinels and unique monsters often have larger cores. The Miasma released by the labyrinths can affect the minds of people that come into contact with it, so adventurers often go to the church after delving into the labyrinth to have the corruption purged from their bodies. To stop the miasma from spreading, the labyrinth core must be destroyed, but few adventurers make it to the lowest level, so it is rare for a labyrinth to be conquered. The two largest known labyrinths are Babel Tower in the Hyssian kingdom and Pit of Despair in the demon territory where the Demon King himself resides.
