Vanessa's In Charge

Famous socialite and billionaire Vanessa English walked down the street, surrounded by her entourage of bodyguards, while onlookers gawked with the mouths agape. In her hand, an old watch that could stop time. Not that she knew it. Vanessa just thought it was pretty and since she considered herself to be pretty it was a natural fit. She had to have to it.

That it belonged to someone else didn't matter. Things like that were never a problem for her. When you're born into a billion dollar family things always managed to work out in your favor.

I was still sitting on street, stunned at the turn of events. How Sophie and I were seemingly ruling the world and righting wrongs and now… Well, now one of the wrongs had the upper hand.

“I’ve got to do something,” I said, hopping to me feet and trying to catch up to Vanessa’s entourage. But before I got there it happened. I could see Vanessa walking… no, not walking, strutting was more like it. Swinging her hips and enjoying her endless moment in the sun. Then I saw her look at the watch. And a moment later she was 10 feet in front herself. She had just blipped from one spot to another.

She looked confused. Not getting what had just happened. She was outside of her army of bodyguards and looking around trying to figure out how she got there. She was staring at the watch and it happened again. Now she was a good 30 in front of them.

I saw it as my chance and I raced ahead of her scrambling bodyguards and past Vanessa. I stopped about 20-30 feet in front of her, anticipating her next blip in time. Sure enough I watched her go from way behind me to right next to me. I reached out and grabbed her arm.

She screamed and squeezed the watch in her gloved hand stopping time. Only this time I was with her.

“What’s going on?” she said.

“You don’t know what you’re messing with. Give me the watch,” I said.

I felt a sharp kick to the shin.

“OW!” I said letting her go.

“Tell me what this thing is or I’ll smash it,” she said.

She had moved away from me and held the watch up. If she smashed it, what would happen? Would we be stuck here? I didn’t know.

“That watch is a government issue weapon that is not fully developed,” I started to bluff.

Vanessa looked around at everyone in the street not moving an inch. I continued me line of BS but she wasn’t buying.

“Oh my God, this thing stops time!” she said.

“And I need it back ASAP. You could wind up in prison for using this thing,” I said. But it didn’t matter. Once she realized it stopped time she knew she had the upper hand.

She grinned at me. Then she started time again. Then she stopped it. Then my pants went missing. So did my shirt. And very quickly Vanessa English, famous socialite, (who I had never heard of) had stripped me and shoved me in the direction of Sophie.

Sophie had gotten up at some point to help but soon had to contend with me, stripped naked and off balance flying right at her.

I’m telling it to you slowly but it happened in an instant. One minute I was talking to Vanessa, the next I was flying full speed at poor Sophie.

I crashed right into her and we both hit the ground in a heap. I could hear Vanessa laughing as she walked out of sight with her bodyguards following behind.

“What the hell, Wesley?” Sophie said.

“She figured it out,” I said.

Fortunately Vanessa wasn’t too clever yet with the watch. She had just thrown my clothes to the ground, but still. I did have to go collect them, my hands covering my junk as I picked them up and hightailing it to the nearest bush.

Sophie laughed as she saw me red faced scrambling for my clothes, but she wasn’t mad at me. So there’s that.

“So what’s plan B?” she said.

I had no idea just yet. Vanessa had the watch and she was gone. And she fully intended to use it.
