You'll be able to learn to use whatever you end up choosing, but since this is a choice that'll stick with you, you want to make sure you don't have to learn too much. Too heavy, and you won't be able to hit quite as hard as you can out of armour. Too unmanoeuvrable, and you won't be able to move around as quickly as you can out of armour. But not protective enough, and it'll be hard to take a hit. Hmm....
