Out on the Town

Damien drove in silence. His thoughts wandered as he travelled to his new district. He was now in charge of two districts separated by miles of unclaimed and rival territories.

The unclaimed areas were areas where the ultra wealthy made their homes. They refused to allow law enforcement to show leniency to “the criminal element.” Houses were big and well-maintained, yards were the same, and the people were varying shades of white and privileged.

Cross that. Plenty of the Asian descended citizen was present as well.

These areas were ripe for the picking, but law enforcement here made for terrible bed-fellows.

The other areas were rival owned. Despite his own organization’s dominance in this city, rivals still maintained a foot hold in some areas. Mostly, these were small time gangs who were being financed from a mysterious third party. As of yet, the identify of this third party was up for debate. If the people here had known his face, he may have never made it out alive. Now he is required to drive through it everyday.

Rarely has Damien cursed his size and looks. His life seemed destined to change ‘rarely’ to ‘often’.

“Why the fuck are you so quiet?”

Victoria’s voice snapped him from his reverie.

“Just thinking. You wanted in on this business, so the more I think the better for both of us.”

“My thoughts count too asshole.”

“I agree. But for now I am lost in mine. I’ll share them with you later.”

“Fine then.”

Damien wasn’t sure why he had allowed his sister into this world after he had felt the need to lie to her about Samuel’s real fate, but he had to admit, he trusted and respected her.
