Elevator inaction
Welcome to Peak Hours
As the elevator began to rise I noticed that Kaila had pulled her cell phone from somewhere and was tapping away at it with both thumbs.
"FUCK... Fucking peak hours... fuck fuck fuck... " Kaila groaned. "Aaaaand the other app's worse..."
"Did I miss something?" I asked, trying desperately not to notice that the cute woman in my arms was occasionally moving in a manner that made concentrating on my date difficult.
"Trying to get a ride share for these two. They're surging prices right now." Kaila grumbled. "Of course, it's Saturday night.."
"Yeah, getting a cab would be just as long probably." I mumbled.
"Exactly, and... hey, uhm, you? You're not good to drive." Kaila addressed the last to Megan, who I noted was now leaning heavily on the support. It was not a question.
The Redhead snapped her fingers at Kaila, ending with a thumbs up. She hesitated a second, then turned it sideways and waved her open palm back and forth a bit.
"Maybe... not." Megan acknowledged.
"So, Brent, you really want to wait an hour for a cab? Maybe longer? In the cold. When we have a Robot Death Parrot that needs to be observed?"
"So, can your car fit them?" I asked hopefully.
"We really... I swore I was going to stop doing this. Ok, fine, we'll help."
The doors opened, and the chill air of the parking structure again impacted on my skin. We hurriedly stepped out, and glanced around the nearly full structure.
"So, which one's yours?" I asked, hoping it wasn't the powder blue hatchback she seemed to be angling towards.
"The van," Kaila pointed with one hand towards a teal 80's Westfalia. It was clean at least from the outside.
"You came in that thing? You're braver..." I began the line.
"...than I thought. " Kaila snorted, finishing the line in synchronicity. "Cute. But on the bright side, you don't have to worry about her... Hey... YOU!" She poked Rachel roughly, who gave a minimal grunt in response. "If you puke in my van you are cleaning it up, got me?"
"I'm not gonna..." Rachel interrupted herself with a small burp. "I'm not going to puke." She amended hastily.
