Arrange the entertainment
Kat looked around the gym and shrugged her shoulders. She'd borrowed a major sound system, found a bunch of 1980s dance tunes, scrubbed down wherever the gym stunk of male sweat, and hung posters of tough female boxers, beautiful yoga poses (it turned out, big surprise, that Usha was a yoga instructor), and burned scented candles to give the place a scent she swore would create positive vibes and negative ions. Rick wasn't into woo-woo, but he knew a lot of women were. Far be it from he to disparage marketing schemes that worked.
They'd sent out a couple of leotard-clad buddies of Kat and Usha with more of Rick's flyers and his instructions on which neighborhoods to hit, which seemed to Kat to be all they needed to do. But Rick wasn't feeling satisfied. Something was missing.
"They'll all dance," Kat said. "Women like to dance and men don't, so let a bunch of women get together and they'll dance and have a great time. And you can give five minute chair massages. Get their O-juices going and they'll come back for the real thing."
"We need something to make an impression," Rick said. "Something that will make them want to sign up. Something that relates to our message of tough women and not taking bullshit from males. Dancing and massage are great, but where is the statement?"
"So you want Kat to beat up some guys?" Usha probably meant her question to be sarcasm, but it was exactly what Rick had been looking for but hadn't been able to put his finger on.
"That's it! We need Kat to show how what she's teaching here can help women be like her, tough, independent, not taking bullshit from anyone."
"Everyone takes bullshit from you."
"Thanks, Usha, for your vote of confidence. But I'm marketing. It's my career to make up bullshit and sell it. It's Kat's career to show women they can be her. Even if they can't."
"They can if they're willing to commit," Kat proclaimed.
"We need to find four or five guys who are built, pretty tough, know something about fighting but not too much, and get them in here," Rick said. "I can work with Kat to arrange the story line but think professional wrestling. We need to create some villains to make the crowd hate them and then show them their place. Kat is our 'face', meaning the goodguy the crowd can root for."
"I can find some bodybuilders," Kat said. "Will that do?"
"Perfect."
