Do our heroines go home or chase Brass Monkey?
They try to get home
“You make a good point. We’d be better off if we went home.”
Nightingale grabbed at the torn up remains of her costume and began to remove it.
“Uh, what’re you doing? Wouldn’t it be better if we wore more clothes?”
“It’s a distraction like this. Too many loose bits that we could trip over hanging off.”
“Well, I’ll take your word for it. You’re in charge here.”
Sunbird peeled the ripped up spandex off her arms and reached down for what remained of the clothes on her legs.
“Leave as much of that as you can on, Sunbird. You’ll want something to protect your legs.” Nightingale discarded the last of the fabric covering her arms. “Now follow my lead, we’ll need to keep quiet.”
Nightingale leaped off the roof and over to the next building. Doing as instructed, Sunbird kept close behind her partner. Both women were used to navigating Astro City at night but neither had ever done it without any clothes on before. Their breasts bounced as they leaped the gaps between buildings. Nightingale kept silent and serious but Sunbird was beginning to lose concentration.
“Ah!” Sunbird undershot the distance between two rooftops and fell between the gap.
Moving swiftly, Nightingale grabbed her partner’s hand and carefully brought her back to the roof.
“Thanks… Sorry about that, I’m not used to this…”
“We need to keep moving, Sunbird. Nobody can see us like this. It wouldn’t exactly help those rumors have been saying about us.” Nightingale walked across the roof at a slow pace to allow Sunbird to recompose herself.
“Do you still care about that? People can think whatever they want about our private lives. As long as we’re still heroes that’s all that really matters.”
“Fine. But do you realize how it would look if someone saw both of us naked together on a roof?”
Sunbird’s face turned red, picturing the scenario. Nightingale was right, it would be absolutely mortifying for a civilian to see them the way they were. Or worse, they could be seen by another superhero. Sunbird had ambitions of her and Nightingale joining Astro City’s premier team of heroes; the Honor Guard. But if they were ever caught out in public like this by another hero, there was no way anyone would take them seriously again.
“Hey, pay attention.” Nightingale took note of Sunbird’s distracted state. “I need your full focus if we’re going to get home without any more problems.”
Sunbird and Nightingale made it to the end of the roof they were on.
“You need to be more careful next time you jump. House is just a few more blocks away.” Nightingale mentally prepared herself to take the leap of faith. “Now we just need to- Wait a minute…”
“What is it?”
Nightingale’s years fighting crime in Astro City taught her to realize when she was being snuck up on. Right now, she could tell that her and Sunbird were not alone. With how high up they were whoever was with them was either another superhero or one of the city’s man villains.
“Sunbird, turn around slowly…” Nightingale whispered. “Someone’s close by…”
Sunbird nodded as she and her partner turned around. She stuck one arm across her chest and put the other between her legs to hide her body. Once the duo had turned around completely they saw that they indeed were not alone.
