An overflowing river

As they came over the top of the hill, Alice looked down to see a wide, overflowing river. Kristen looked a little saddened to see the river.

“I forgot about all the rain. Guess that throws out the rope swing” she said, pointing to a large rope hanging slightly in the water. Both of them surveyed the wide, rushing stream of water before them.

Alice realized that the rushing water might make it difficult to swim across, depending on how deep it was. It was at least thirty yards across, and she couldn’t see the bottom for most of it.

“What should we do?” She asked Kristen, who stood silently pondering.
