Do they arrest him?
Sort of
As he opened the car door, Officer Lopez stepped back in slow motion while simultaneously reaching for her gun.
That's when Rick noticed she wasn't the only one. All of the cops seemed to have caught the slow motion disease. Unfortunately, all of them were also reaching for their weapons.
Well, shit. bio-DNA was doing its job, increasing the speed of his synapses and the nerve impulses between his eyes and his brain. Unfortunately, he still wouldn't be able to outrun a bullet and when they started shooting, they'd keep shooting until he was completely dead.
He made himself go still. "I'm just getting out of the car," he said slowly. "Door swung open a little fast, that's all."
For what seemed like minutes, nothing happened. Then Lopez grabbed him and heaved him into the side of his car. He could easily have avoided that grab but again, that sounded like a good way to start the shooting.
She patted him down professionally, although he wondered if she'd really needed to be quite so thorough in his dick region then, for good measure, slammed him against the car again. He was pretty sure his head and chest were denting the car and that he wouldn't be able to pay for body work anytime soon, but he forced himself not to complain. People who live in their cars don't get any sympathy from cops, judges, juries or district attorneys. "Can you tell me what this is about, officer?"
"You're covered with blood and you ask me what this is about? Where's the body?"
"Ah. I understand." His brain seemed to be overclocked and he didn't even have to pause before an idea came to him. "I have a severe allergy which gives me a skin condition. Believe me, officer, all this blood is my own."
"Yeah, that's believable. You'd better come with us to make a statement."
"I'd like to speak to my lawyer first."
Not that Rick had a lawyer. What he had was a sister who was a lawyer. Unfortunately she was out in California and he was here in Texas.
"You'll do what the fuck I tell you." Lopez powered him into his car one more time.
