Chapter 3 by a42

You wake up, who are you?

James, 30-something council worker

"Well, that was one weird dream" you think to yourself as you haul yourself out of bed, yawning and not yet fully awake, but bursting for a piss. Plodding across the hallway to your bathroom to relieve your bladder you do a double take as it isn't as you remember - instead of a separate small room with a toilet, sink and a shower above a bath, facing you is an alcove with the sink and bath but in the place of the toilet is a separate shower - with no curtain, but in the same very dated shade of green ("avocado" some part of your brain helpfully interjects) as the other fittings. Puzzled you look around the rest of your small flat, nothing much else seems to have changed although there do seem to be some gratings in the floor here and there that you're not certain were there before. Most concealingly though there is absolutely no sign of a toilet or anything like that.

Getting increasingly **** to empty your bladder you decide to use the shower for now and worry about it later when you've had some time to think it through logically - toilets don't simply go missing and you don't recall ever hearing about one being stolen before. After letting loose with a stream that was both longer and more voluminous than you recall as being typical, you go to the kitchen and start breakfast - you always did think better on a full stomach. One bacon sandwich and a two large mugs of tea later you glance at the time and see that you'll be late for work if you don't leave right now - but you aren't dressed yet and haven't even begun to untangle the mystery of the radically changed bathroom.

You could call in sick and give yourself time to figure stuff out, but you don't have that many sick days left after a bout of pneumonia a few months back. Or you could try and pull yourself together and hope things start making sense on the tram to work. Whichever it is you need to make a decision quickly!

Do you call in sick?
