“Like I said, I won’t **** you to go anywhere. So you could go to group, role play with Nurse Karen, or stay in your room until dinner time.”

Lauren pondered Nurse Karen sounded the most appealing but she wasn’t sure about role playing.

“Role playing events from yesterday?”

“Yes, Nurse Karen would take on the role of other people and you would be yourself. I want you to try and make improvements on yesterday and how things could’ve gone better.”

Lauren’s heart sped up thinking about her humiliation and the idea of reliving it.

“What if... what if I freak out?”

“That’s fine. You’re in a safe place. Everyone wants what’s best for you. If you need to cry you can cry. This is to help you, not hurt you. You don’t have to go any further than you’re capable of.”

Lauren couldn’t think of a single moment from yesterday she wanted to try to role play even to improve it because she knew she couldn’t. That the consequences were still there even if she made changes in her mind.

“I’m... scared.” Lauren teared up. “Yesterday was so terrible. It’s like, any moment would be the worst possible thing thing I could do to myself today.”

“You don’t have to do it. You can go back to your room or you can go to group. However, remember that you’re safe, with Nurse Karen who you trust. While the memory and trauma are real and you can’t change the past you can change the way your mind processes it and maybe it won’t hurt as much and maybe with time it won’t hurt at all. Are you willing to try?”

“Will... I have to get undressed?”

“The role play should be as close to the real thing as possible. I would say yes but I’m not going to **** you.”

The clock was ticking as the appointment should’ve been over several minutes ago.

“Lauren, just tell me where you’d like to go.”
