Chapter 34 by simmaster
What, indeed?
Demonologist
Having minions of your own that you can summon as necessary sounds perfect. It would be more bearable to be a support class if you could also conjure allies to support. You select Demonologist.
As you do, the option flickers away and you feel your decision take effect. Your body is filled with power as your mana pool expands, and you feel your clothes shift and alter to match your new monster type.
When the rush of mana fades and your clothes settle, you hold up your arms and inspect your new body.
Your robe is no longer dark purple. Instead, it's dark red. Still rather plain, but you've got some free jewelry to go along with it. Specifically, a pair of golden bracelets with demonic symbols engraved into the surface, and once you reach up to feel your head, you find that you also have a golden circlet now, with a ruby encrusted into the front. It seems to be part of your hood, giving it some more shape. The jewelry might also just be brass with some cheap jewel, but you tell yourself it's gold and ruby to make yourself feel better...
Unfortunately, you notice no physical change. You are no taller, and nothing has changed in your nether regions. However, you notice that a little book has been added to your inventory...
Demonologist's Tome
Used by a Demonologist for ritual magic. Spells marked with "(R)" require the tome to be cast.
Demons and elementals of lower level than the Demonologist can have a summoning spell associated with them added to the book with their consent.
Cool, you have your own spellbook now! And you can use it to collect summons! You do hope you get summoning spells just by leveling up as well, because you don't see yourself coming across a demon or elemental anytime soon. And even if you did, you expect it to be hard to convince one to let you put its name in your book or however that works.
Speaking of which, you open up your stats. You're eager to see your new spells!

Alright, so... You've lost some spells. Some of the ones you kept have become weaker. BUT... two of those new spells look pretty fucking rad. Having your own familiar sounds rad. Having a bunch of little temporary minions sounds even more rad. The level limit is a bit of a bummer, but you can still have anything from eight level 1 demons hopping around to one level 8 one... If nothing else they'd make good cannon fodder. Which is what you used to be.
You feel pretty good about this, overall. You may not be any bigger, but you can create someone to be bigger FOR you. Still not ideal, but maybe you'll get another growth choice later on.
"Alright, done!" you hear Morwyn say. Closing down your stats, you see her stand back up and turn to face you.
"Now we can- wait what happened to you? Did you take the opportunity to change while I wasn't looking? You could've asked for some privacy earlier, you know."
"Uhh..." you begin. "The XP I got from helping out during that bar fight kinda earned me a class upgrade. So I'm a Demonologist now. More of a summoner, I guess."
She raises her eyebrows. "Oh, cool! I didn't even know monsters could get class changes."
"Me neither, until just now."
"The developers really go the extra mile, huh... I kinda like this look for you, though. You almost look a little regal with that headband-thing."
"I'm pretty sure it's called a circlet."
"Whatever. Also yellow eyes suit you. Now we almost match!"
"My eyes are yellow?"
"Yeah, didn't you notice?"
You frown at her, knowing that your silence is enough of an answer to her question.
"Oh... right. So anyway, my companion can have mini-companions now? Because that'd be awesome. Show me!"
The rock she had just used as a table now becomes her chair as she sits down on it, elbows on her knees and leaning her head into her hands as she awaits your magic show. Immediately you're getting performance anxiety, but you are also eager to try your new spells, so you try to ignore her staring and cast a ritual, while also ignoring the irony of your Blood Ritual not being tagged as a ritual...
You bring the tome out of your inventory. It's small enough for you to hold in one hand, and as you open it, you find its pages written with demonic symbols that you suddenly understand. You flip through it, which feels much like navigating a spell menu, until you find Summon Familiar. As you attempt to cast it, you see a menu appear in front of you. It's a list of all your possible summons. Most options are greyed out, indicating you can't access them yet. The only ones available to you right now are imps, lesser elementals of every element, as well as a demon taking on the shape and stats of a critter of your choice, such as a rat or snake.
What shall be your familiar?
Game Monster
From Creep to Boss
You come into being as a low-level monster, the kind heroes chew through like popcorn. You know the drill, whether you're a player yourself or an artificial intelligence, and you're sick of it. You set out on your own quest: to defeat the heroes at any cost (or at least be an epic boss somewhere down the line).
