Chapter 8 by RivoCarnelian RivoCarnelian

What do you look at next?

The bundle of papers

The bundle of papers looks more promising, only held together with string. Perhaps the train isn't the best place to be sorting through them though, for one thing there's the worry that something might get lost if you aren't careful. At the back of your mind there's also the fear that if your uncle's research is as valuable as he made it out to be, someone might try and steal it.

With that thought, you leave the papers in the chest, place the book back on top, followed by the letter and close the chest securely once more. You can't help but cast a furtive glance around the train carriage as you do so, but no-one appears to be paying any attention to you.

Eventually you find yourself at home, and free to look through the chest in private, and without risk of losing anything. Carefully leafing through the bundle of papers you find that they are mostly letters, correspondence between your uncle and various parties, among them the lawyer, Rosenkreutz. The letters talk about your Uncle's research in cryptic references, and more than one bears little squiggles or notes in various different sets of handwriting.

There also appear to be some rather more risque letters addressed to your Uncle, and signed only by a letter M. You blush a little at the contents of those letters and put them to one side, unwilling to intrude on your Uncle's apparently rather lurid sex life.

Do you find a way to open the book?
