Chapter 8 by VagueJester
Which do you choose?
Keep her alive. . . for now
Despite being a priestess, she clearly isn't a terribly high level. Quickly rushing around the room, you gather a bunch of cobwebs and take them to your crafting table, making some more ropes which you use to quickly tie her up before she's fully awake.
"Ugh. . ." she groans. "What's going on?"
"Your friends were a bit too impatient and got killed by me," you say, purposefully avoiding looking at her and checking the leftover loot from your recent kills. A couple more empty bottles, and ten pieces of leather are all you are rewarded with for your efforts before the same message from when you were pilfering the warriors remains appears.
20/20 Shadow Essence Collected!
New Upgrade(s) Available.
13/30 Shadow Essence Collected!
"So, why haven't you killed me yet?" The girl demands, but you ignore her as you consider the message.
So, it would seem that you also benefit from the collection of Shadow Essences. Opening your stat screen, you decide to take a look at the changes.

Achievement Unlocked! Baby's First Prisoner
You've successfully taken your first prisoner, granting you a measure of respect among your fellow monsters and elevating your status enough where you can summon 1 Common minion of the same Class tree as you. (Cost 30 MP; 150 in Sunlight; 10 in Darkness)
Interesting. You decide to give your new abilities a try, starting with your summoning power. You expected one of the Shadow wisps from higher in the dungeon to float down to you, but as you focus your power, your surprised to see the darkness around you start to coalesce before a pair of glowing yellow dots appears, floating in front of your face. Unwilling to use this ability to harvest more Shadow Essence, you mentally command your new minion to watch over your prisoner as you experiment with your other new ability. You reach out with your senses, and it feels as if the darkness in the room has become part of you. Focusing on your prisoner, you watch as inky-black tendrils rise from the darkness to wrap around her legs and arms, binding her more securely than your ropes could ever hope to.
"What are you doing?" She yelps as the shadows crisscross around her body, binding her arms together behind her back as well as her legs at the ankles, shins, and thighs. Obsidian lines wrap tight around her frumpy robes, giving you a hint of the soft curves underneath. You walk over and untie her now that she is more tightly secured than before, and she wiggles back and forth. You stand and watch her movements, finding the mixture of her frustrated pout, soft grunts, and writhing motions to be strangely alluring. It occurs to you that the girl is completely at your mercy, and it would be nice to have some sort of entertainment as you waited for more heroes to come throw themselves at you, but you control that impulse as you remember what your benefactor said about stories of **** being what drew the gods' attention in the first place.
That being said, what better way to start taking down the Goddess of Purity than by taking away her followers, one by one?
Do you take her?
Game Monster
From Creep to Boss
You come into being as a low-level monster, the kind heroes chew through like popcorn. You know the drill, whether you're a player yourself or an artificial intelligence, and you're sick of it. You set out on your own quest: to defeat the heroes at any cost (or at least be an epic boss somewhere down the line).
