Conversations with your family

"Come on kiddo, take a seat and have some breakfast."

You take a seat at the table. You see your mom in a business outfit now. It wasn't surprising as she frequently wore them to work. Your mom has made you a spanish omelette.

"Wow! This looks delicious mom."

"I've made it just the way you like it, spicy!"

You take a bite. "MMM! Just the way I remember it!" Your mom smiles and tells you to eat up while it's hot. You start scarfing it down.

"Slow down bro....or you might **** on the wrong stuff."

You and your mom give your sister a disapproving look.

"Whaat? I'm joking!"

"So.." your mom asks "..I know you've been having trouble at work. Wanna tell me about it?"

"*sigh* It's just that..my friends are way more successful than me at this age and I hate it. I absolutely hate it. "

"Nick you really shouldn't compare yourself to others. It's a vicious circle. You compare yourself with other people and try to be like them only to find out that they are not the people you aspire to be. Then you compare yourself with another set of people and on and on it goes. Try not to do that. The things that you see on social media are not the whole truth. Just a sliver of it. You probably won't realize it now but these _'perfect' _people have their own demons to deal with. Also the world isn't fair. Some people have wealthy parents, or they might have a lot of social connections that might help them land a great job. It's an uneven playing field out there. Just...try to be yourself. Try to find other things that might give you joy. You used to love painting when you were a kid and you were really good at it. Why not try it again? Also if you do want to compare yourself, try to do it with yourself. Ask yourself what you can do to better yourself. Just..." Your mom has a worried expression in her eyes. "Just promise me you won't do anything stupid to yourself. Nick.. life is worth living, and you have it better than a lot of people. Just do things that give you happiness. Okay?"

"I won't kill myself if that's what you wanted to say mom and yes, what you said does make sense. But...I don't know. When dad was my age he was already running a successful business and you were pregnant with me! He had life figured out!"

"No he certainly did not! He inherited part of the business from his family and expanded on it. 90% of all the connections he wanted were already made. He just exploited it to the maximum, utilizing every bit of his connections. And I used to be his best friend since his childhood. It's why we married early on because we already knew each other far too well. Also our pregnancy wasn't planned. He..."

"WHAT!!" Both you and your sister say in unison.

"You mean I was an accident? Holy FUCK!" you say.

"LANGUAGE! Now now, you might've been an accident but you were a happy accident. We couldn't have been more happier to have you in this world. He was so scared of being the father. He worried day and night whether he'd do right by you. And the moment he held you in his hand, he knew he'd love you and protect you at all costs."

"Huh...Why didn't you ever tell us about it mom?" you ask.

"Well it never came up until today. And I was really worried about you. You and your father are not the same person. You both are different and wonderful in so many different ways. Just try to accept these differences. Will you?"

"Yeah mom. I will." Talking with your mom gave you a new perspective.

"Yeah and don't stay cooped up at your place for so long bro. Try to get out more. And keep visiting mom and me." Arya adds.

"I will I will. Thanks you guys. I really needed this."

"Anytime son" your mom says with that motherly smile that all mothers seem to have.

"I got you too little bro" your sister says cheekily with a grin.

"ONE CENTIMETER!! I'M ONLY ONE CENTIMETER SHORT!" you say out loud

"You are short nonetheless! And that makes you..."

"I'M GONNA KILL YOU!!" you interrupt her before she could finish her sentence and chase her around the room and tackle her into the couch and tickle her ferociously. She couldn't fight you off and was a squealing, laughing mess and you laughed along with her before your mother decided to intervene and separate you both. Height wasn't a touchy issue for you but you always responded with tickle attacks whenever your sister teased you about it. After all you are the bigger brother and damn it you're gonna keep the dominant position.

"Both of you finish your breakfast now! *sigh*" your mom expressed displeasure although secretly she couldn't have been happier. Her son was happy again.
