Lunch Date

Spencer found Amy waiting outside of school, due to him being a few minutes late. She entered the car, and said "You're late Dad."

"Sorry sweetie. Got a bit carried away with some freelance work."

"Must be going well. You look happy."

"Yeah, it is." Amy's words made him somewhat nervous. He didn't want to let on that he was seeing another woman. Not until his relationship with Danielle was more solid. Part of Spencer was concerned how Amy would take him seeing another woman.

Spencer and Danielle spent the weekend exchanging texts, trying their best to find time to see each other. Seeing as Danielle had to deal with a difficult customer, Spencer took the time to actually get ahead with his own clients. The two eventually settled to meet at the Corner Coffee House on Monday. Spencer figured that lunchtime meetings would become common. He didn't mind, although the Corner Coffee House might become hazardous to his wallet and waistline.

When it came Monday, Spencer found himself glued to his phone, eager for a text from Danielle. At 11 o'clock, he finally receives the text he wanted.

'Im free at 12'

'see you then'

Both Spencer and Danielle did their best to distract themselves for the hour. Spencer applied his favorite cologne whilst Dani made sure her makeup was just right. As Spencer considered what to wear, Dani dealt with a retired couple who had no clue what to do with their money. She tried her best to not look disinterested whilst Spencer did his best to distract himself with TV.

Finally, the time comes for them to meet. Spencer found Dani sitting at a table alone. They wave at each other before he sat down at the table.

"Hey Spence."

"Hey."

"So, how's your day been?"

"Pretty easy going. How about you?"

Dani let out a sigh. "Yeah, busy."

"No rest for the wicked." Dani giggled for a second as a waitress came over to take their order. After ordering, Spencer said "So, nothing too difficult, right?"

"Oh, not really. Just the same old."

"You don't enjoy it?"

"I don't know. I guess I just figured I'd be somewhere else in life by now."

"Well, it's not too late to change."

"Yeah, it's just, I'm not sure what I'm looking for, you know?"

"You should look into it."

"True. Well, anyway, I figured I was going to go for a hike this Friday, and wondered if you wanted to come along?"

"I'd love to."

"Great."

Lunch arrived and the two dug in. After their meal, they went back to their separate lives. Dani went back to her office and stared at the photo in her office. Maybe Spencer was right. She needed to seek the change she so desperately desired and find her way out of her white collar life.
