X Merge

Merge, flickers across the display. On a hunch you point the calculator at an apple sat on the kitchen counter. The display flashes a string of seemingly random numbers. You Move it a few inches to the left until it is pointing at a banana. A new set of numbers appear next to the ones for the appel with an × between them. Not sure what to expect you hit = and almost drop the calculator as you are dazzled by a brilliant flash of light.

When you've managed to blink away the purple spots from your vision you see the two pieces of fruit have vanished and been replaced by a single banana apple hybrid. The new fruit is shaped like an apple but it has the familiar yellow skin of a banana. Peeling it you find the inside still looks like an apple but when you take a bite it proves to have its own unique flavour. A sort of fusion of apple and banana that manages to taste of neither.

Setting the merged fruit back down you hit the cancel key. There is another flash of light and an apple and a banana reappear on the counter each with a small bite out of it.

Clearly, you have stumbled into something far beyond your understanding. A more thorough search of the box yields only a single clue. A business card with a stylised G embossed on it and the words Greyburg inc. in a flowing script.

The smart thing to do would be to leave the thing alone until you can find out more about it. But being smart was never your strong suit. Curiosity wins out or caution and you pick it up again. This time you...
